I am Australian but because I grew up in American I have never been *Australian*, to grow up under the sun is one thing that years of fairy bread on birthday mornings and strange colloquialism that my classmates don’t understand will ever be able to comprehend. I went for the first time in my memory a few summers ago, and I see it everywhere I go now.

even though i think about the other places in the world I could move to I think i'd always come back to australia... there's no where else like it and there never will be. the end of the year isn't the same without thirty-degree days and magpies and the bush smell. this is a really lovely video, i hope you have a nice festive season :) <3

as someone who was born in the most isolated state in australia, i spend so much time romanticising other parts of the world... europe... places with snow... especially in the festive months. i have begun to resent the sun, simply for the fact that it has become trivial... and yet i forget how lucky i am to see blue skies at this time of year when family is so important... this video reminded me to be grateful that i live in such a beautiful place, that may not be the most comforting in its harshness... but its home.

I want it to be warm again 😭 I am freezing over up here in Germany where I moved about eight years ago. This is the first winter I really started loathing the cold.

In 2018, I moved to Australia for two fleeting years and haven’t returned in six. This video pulls me back and leaves me incredibly homesick for a place still holding pieces of me.

Sounds a little bit like a cliche. But a good writer can talk about these topics in this “environment" without touching it. I will read the book (had it already in mx hands and thought: interesting, maybe). So i will see.

I completely agree on your take on Hugh Grant. He's brilliant when playing villains, he wa also amazing on the lastest dnd movie. It's nice to see him breaking out of his typecasted baffled romantic englishman trope.

It's good to meet another reader! Very interesting recommendations. I would consider The Master and Margarita my second favorite novel (Moby Dick being the first). If you haven't read them, I would recommend these books: The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake Geek Love by Katherine Dunn Obscene Bird of Night by Jose Donoso Elby

About the art and the artist thing I have been thinking about moral consumption, and if it does apply to artists who are problematic in a way but do make ground turning works, does that amazing art inherent some of the artist's characters? probably yes, and yes "the artist and the art are intertwined but they are separate things" I understand that but the art can't exist without the artist.and a work of art can lead the artist in some kind of a way ,iam just yapping This is a midnight comment from someone who can't sleep because they drank coffee because it was a social bonding behavior in a gathering

Also, everyone presents a different persona to different groups of people, someone will not be the same at every single occasion, so we change what we present to each person, therefore no one gets our whole. But then, who are we? How are we a whole if we don’t present ourselves as a whole?

Oh my gosh I didn’t even know I read one of Edgar Alan Poe’s short stories! In school we read it. I read it at home though because I was absent that day. It was crazy.

no i understand what u mean ! the artist creates art ! which, may not be a biography but his personality is there !! so that makes the artist’s art his. because all the ingredients that were needed to create the art was indeed within him.

I can't recommend "The Vourdalak" highly enough! It came out earlier this year, but when i was watching it, i really got the vibe that it was made in the 60s or 70s. It's based on a book of the same name and tells the story of a family that takes in a stranded French nobleman, but then becomes haunted when their father returns from battle... not quite as he left.... it's probably my favorite movie of the year!
