Keep em coming man these are some of the best audio education videos I've seen. I loved your horn build, it would be cool to see the new dd sub in a tapped horn or a similar high efficiency box.

yeah... see the driver in the new build... yeah the driver was a right pain in the ass to get in, so all that's visible right now is the cone, currently rendering the next horn episode, will upload soon

DAK, thank you for this video and the knowledge. You make good sense of this subject for those who may not understand parallel and series, or combined circuits. A big shout out from the heartland of the U.S.!

same thing as for subwoofers, though the "linear region" takes up more space, so it acts more like a 4 ohm than a 6 ohm if you get what I mean

Does it damage my subwoofer to use one of the voice coil’s instead of both?
@Dakoustics4 жыл бұрын
its usually best practice to use both voice coils, even if you've got a 300w at 4 ohm amp and dual 4 ohm sub, you're better off running 200w into both voice coils in series at 8 ohms rather than 300w into a single voice coil. Essentially what happens is even though you've only got half the current, you've got twice the length of voice coil inside the voice coil gap, so it makes up for it. If you've got a 2000w dual voice coil sub, and only have the option to use one coil for whatever reason, I'd also not want to go much above 1000w to be safe, in theory it should handle say 1500w due to the unpowered voice coil still acting as a heat sink, though the used voice coil isn't going to perfectly transfer heat, so it could cook on full power.

i built a small box for my mids and highs that houses two 4 ohm tweeters and two 8 ohm mid range speakers..how can i wire all 4 of these speakers to one amp?.. the amp is a taramps DS800.4 4 channel, 2 ohm amp thanks
@Dakoustics4 жыл бұрын
Ideally if the amp had high pass and low pass per channel, you could just run one channel per speaker, pair left speaker and tweeter with right speaker and tweeter, set a crossover at around 3KHz, and set levels to what sounds good. Be careful not to blow up the tweeters though. Tweeters are often more efficient than speakers, so tweeters in series and speakers in parallel running off a single channel should work well if you're ok with mono. You might want to consider using a crossover also, crossovers can be daunting, there should be some tutorials on youtube. Using tweeters and midranges of different impedance makes it a bit trickier. At the very least use a crossover calculator online to work out the value for a capacitor for the tweeters, a capacitor in series is the most basic crossover/protection there is.

Mono block amp, dual 2ohms sub and 4ohm sub. How do i connect them into 1ohm ?
@Dakoustics4 жыл бұрын
dual 2 ohm sub by itself would be parallel to get to 1 ohm, though if you mean you have both a dual 2 ohm sub and a 4 ohm sub, i'd suggest wiring the dual 2 ohm sub in series to 4 ohms, and running both subs in parallel to get to 2 ohms, unfortunately 1 ohm isn't possible. 0.8 if everything is wired in parallel. I personally don't really suggest mixing and matching different subs, especially in the same enclosure and/or on the same amp. But, if you want each sub to perform similarly, running both at 4 ohms for slightly less power from the amplifier is best case.
@Krupnoklipac4 жыл бұрын
@@Dakoustics I converted dual 2ohms sub into 4ohms. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXnLpIqwgbSFpZI This is my setup. Sorry if video doesnt show much. The second sub is 4ohm and wires from the box are connected to bridge mode on the amp. The amp is Ground Zero GZTA 1.1200DX subs: 1x Ground Zero GZRW 300X 1x Ground Zero GZRB 300BPX The sound is great , no overheating on amp. But i im not sure what i got and am i safe to use this combination. I am unable to buy new subs bc they don't sell those anymore. Tnx
@Dakoustics4 жыл бұрын
@@Krupnoklipac Ah yeah, I watched the video, correct me if I'm wrong, though it looks like the GZRB 300BPX came with the box, and is a single 4 ohm, and the GZRW 300X is a replacement driver for one which blew in the past or something. If that's the case, this is spot on, and it's pretty well perfect, each driver should act exactly the same, the only difference should be that one is a dual vc and one is a single vc.

I always ran my subs and amplifiers at 1 ohm stable, And I never blew an amp. I've only blown one subwoofer, But I've literally beat the crap out of them for 2 years straight with no problem before I've blown it. If you really want to learn more about how to wire your subs and amps you have to go to Steve Meade's channel because he is an expert. This guy is telling us to run our subs off of a headphone amplifier?? Wth??
