The Farmington was exactly how you described it: small windows and casting over dozens of smaller rises to the big gulpers during the peak of hatches. I used to fish it 100 days a year back in the 1990s. Will always be my home waters even though I’ve only fished it less than 10 days in the last 20 years. River looks spectacular in your video. I don’t recognize the stretch, but my guess is a bit upriver. Perhaps above Whittemore or above Schoolbus. Hope you make some videos in 2024.

wondering what date this was. Hey do you guys know anything about this "survivor strain" having some sort of reflective tag in its eye? New high tech wierdness for GMO Trout.
@DownstreamDownrange2 жыл бұрын
This was about 7 days ago I believe if I can remember right. Yes survivor strain trout are doing well at the farm however I’m not exactly sure how to identify them!
@robertgraves32152 жыл бұрын
@@DownstreamDownrange A guy told me they inject some sort of reflector into the eye . It's a solid idea, I mean if you're gonna stock fish, might as well use the ones with the good genes . I'm still amazed how strong mine was , beat a Beaverkill brown for sure. I like this river a lot more now, but man you can beat the shit out of yourself wading in it.
@DownstreamDownrange2 жыл бұрын
@@robertgraves3215 hahahaha !!! Yes Yoy can end up having quite a workout! I bet that injection is true!
@jlajoie1112 жыл бұрын
@@DownstreamDownrange They have a dye pattern above their eye, left or right depending on when they were stocked. Also, the color pattern changes from year to year, allowing the fisheries scientists to know when they were out in.
@jlajoie1112 жыл бұрын
To differentiate Survivor offspring among other trout in the Farmington, they are given elastomer tags, or colored identification marks. These tags are implanted into the transparent tissue above one of their eyes. Survivors are stocked in two different size classes. The two-year old adults (approximately 14-18”) receive an elastomer above their left eye. The yearlings (approximately 6-12”) are injected with one above their right eye. The color schemes of the tags change from year to year, allowing fisheries biologists and anglers to conveniently keep track of Survivors’ age and how long they’ve spent in the river. Occasionally, however, elastomer tags can fall out or become overgrown with tissue, so keep that in mind when trying to identify a suspected Survivor.

I just got back from there. I got an 18" brown on a Vitrea spinner (self tied) . OMG did I bust may sss to get that fish. My waders leaked Grrr. and Brrr. I cannot believe how hard they fight in there. I can usually land an 18" in around 8 minutes, This one stripped line endlessly . Holy cow. Landed a 12" brown in the riffs. broke off 3 more . MY tippet spool is possibly too old . I am freaking toast.
