Every damn word of this was exactly how I felt, especially analyzing Bowyer and not taking off his helmet like everyone's been saying. 1950s I've seen so many fights in the pits and the stands over what was right or wrong...drivers have serious attitude or they wouldn't be drivers. And the people in the stands..would do just about anything for their favorite driver. Racing is a tuff deal...work hard for more hours than most people realize...for a few hours of racing, only to get all your hard work taken away in a matter seconds...and back to the shop to get ready for the next time...Racing isn't for the average person...Racing blood doesn't come with a red line or a rev limiter...!

I'm a big fan of both, I don't have a "favorite driver" but these two are up there. Bowyer stepped up in my book for not letting what he saw happen slide. Newman stepped up in my book for the restraint he showed by not going after bowyer after he got out. This doesn't change my respect for either driver. I also like what Jr said about keeping your head on a swivel, but I believe our local dirt track has a policy of if you take a swing, your out of the pits for the night.

He could have easily got out of his car, took his helmet off and then sprinted over. The officials weren't sitting around his car waiting for him to get out... shoot, Newman didn't even know he was planning to do this. I can attest that there were always fights tied to racing from the local track we use to race every weekend some 60+ yrs ago including all other local tracks throughout the country from NASCAR down. However, times have changed quite a bit over the years and I have to agree with JR it’s time to draw the line. NASCAR is always making and changing rules many of which were unnecessary so why don’t they get off their thick duffs and rule on fighting. It’s unprofessional and no longer appropriate in racing. They should place a costly fine on anyone throwing punches or striking another to deter it from occurring. You want to see fighting go buy tickets to the ring and watch 9 or 10 rounds of it. Great show Dale wish it was longer. I really love listening to the stories on what all took place in the early years of NASCAR and DW makes it all so humorous.

Yes, Dale comes across extremely well. But I don’t think he’s the best one to give advice or make up the rules for someone that could receive head trauma. He might be a little bit excessive.🤕

Hockey fights are not regular fights, most are “planned”. Generally have certain people that do most of the teams fights, less so now but it’s still there. They hired fighters for that reason, that was their job. That’s where the “rules” came from. Respect amongst the players with the hardest job in the league. They paid a heavy price long term though. Cheers to the hockey enforcers!!

I remember after a race where Marcus Ambrose put a pop knot on Casey Mears. Didn't seem to matter. But hey, if you feel the need, at least televise it!

I've been wracking my brain as to why the seats are so empty. I think it's a combination of overpriced Tix; And such a drastic improvement with TV coverage. Helmet cams, slow mo pit stops, radio chatter, great talent on both networks... I think people are happier now to grab a case of beer and have their buddies over. We can pause and rewind with our PVR's... We used to get Indy Tix every year in Canada here. We always went to Friday and Saturday, but saved the raceday Tix for good friends on Sunday so we could stay home. In the AC. And drink cheap beer. With the best coverage.

It’s a child that “just goes over there and punches him”. A gentleman, I dare say, A MAN, fights fairly, with honor and dignity. I know it’s possible since I’ve done it since high school.

I think NASCAR arguments between drivers should be settled in the UFC ring. This would be a bomb shell explosion. Millions of NASCAR spectators would tune in to see the fight between 2 NASCAR drivers.

I believe in old school..when it comes to fighting there isn't any rules. If you don't like it then don't be fighting or cause a fight.

jerry bryant that wasn’t a fight they both agreed on. Are you ok with sucker punching people from behind that don’t expect it?

@@SHA8UTIE A sucker punch is an unexpected punch or blow. You better be on your toes in life or you will be sucker punched for the rest of your life. He saw what was coming. And 99% of fights are never agreed on. I can tell you haven't experienced a lot of the real world or have been sprinkled with a lot of fairy dust.

@@alittletexasingeorgia I literally grew up fighting and was as poor as you could possibly imagine. I also got into some fights while playing college football. He didn't see what was coming until Bowyer was on top of him. I asked that question to see how consistent you would be with your logic. If I am eating dinner out at a restaurant and someone randomly hits be in the back of the head while I am eating a steak, was that something I should have been "on my toes" for? "I can tell you haven't experienced a lot in the real world"... you couldn't be more wrong.

Funny part is NOBODY cared about that race just the fight. From what I remember they never even showed Richard Petty cross the finish line and even the camera men and Ken Squire was more interested in the fight.

Nastycar and some of their “rules” are what have ruined a once great sport. Restrictor plates. Really? Are they scared someone will go fast? IT’S A RACE! Fighting? Yarborough and the Allisons ring a bell? I’m a little too close to this subject to get involved here. We are out of the racing business now, and I don’t want to upset any family here so FOR THE RECORD THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY. Not to reflect the views of any race teams either existent or non existent. Dale, you and your dad gave us many great races and decades of racing entertainment. For that we thank you from the very bottom of our hearts!

I agree that at some point someone has to stop the fight. However What happened Saturday Night was fine. Of Course we can't be having drivers all out MMA fighting on pit road. And I'm with Mike on this one first thing that came to mind was " When Newman gets out his car he is going to open a HUGE can of Whoop Ass on Boywer. Newman impressed me there.
