Long before I was such a fan of Dale Jr., I was a fan of Bobby Labonte and that green Interstate Batteries car. In '03 when Bobby passed Dale to get the win at Homestead, I was a kid in the hospital recovering from my second major surgery in a year. I will never ever forget watching Bobby win that race, because it sure made me forget I was in body cast laying in a hospital bed. Thank you both for that, because it meant a hell of a lot at the time!

Great interview! Been waiting a long time for this one JR! I was huge #18 fan and remember that race all to well. Interesting and great to see you guys talking about it and knowing what really went on. As disappointing as it was at the time to see Bobby's luck run out again at Dega, it is one amazing and unforgetttable moment to see what Dale did in those closing laps for his final and 76th win. I still wish so much Bobby would have had better luck at Dega and Daytona, but seeing him carry Pontiac back to the top of Cup before its demise made me so very happy. Thank you for this one and hope to see him back on again, perhaps with Terry next time?!!?!

Bobby was involved in the 2000 Cracker Barrel 500 with Dale Earnhardt and he came out on the losing end of that one. But that was such a big memory for me because my uncle died in the hospital that day and I was incredibly distraught and I turned the race on and there was the 3 and the 18 battling it out for the win, and Dale won that thing. It was almost like Dale and my uncle were saying through that moment "don't be sad anymore, don't worry go live your life" and I didn't think of it at the time but long story short, but it almost was a sign to pick up and move on.

Pocono in 01 was my first race I ever went to out of dozens.. I'll never forget that day. I was about 10-11 years old, covered head-to-toe in 8 Bud merch.. Ever since 97-98, I've been a raging, diehard Earnhardt Jr fan... I cried like such a baby all the way home in the car after that race.. I wanted Jr to win SOOOOOOO bad. The kicker to all of this is that in 2014, I decided to skip the Pocono races bc they just weren't what they used to be. I chose to not go & Jr ends up winning both of the sumbitches lol Been a crazy 20 years as an Earnhardt fan.. Just wish I could've witnessed 1 of those 2 races in 2014. I get so mad at myself knowing I willingly missed both times. It is what it is, I guess

So if you watch the espn interview of dale Sr. Dale Sr. Said “I got up to the front and I waited for dale jr to get in front of me and he wouldn’t move into lane 2 so I just decided to go on and pass him” so dale Sr. Was wanting dale jr to pull out in front of him so dale wouldn’t have to depend on Kenny Wallace to stick with him. And dale jr was thinking he would get mad if he pulled in front of him. Also dale Sr kept saying in every interview “I have no idea how I got back to the front and passed all those cars” well it sounds like dale jr was slowing the field down little by little and that explains why dale Sr was so shocked he made it back to the front to win. Even with Wallace pushing him he still wouldn’t of had enough speed probably to make up all of that ground. It makes so much sense now.

2000 fall Talladega. With like 10 to go, Jr. and Labonte were nose to tail on the inside. A couple times down the back stretch, Labonte ducked onto the apron and Jr. covered. Skinner wasn't in front of them yet. Skinner made his way from the middle of a three-wide beast with Andretti pushing. Skinner then covered Jr. and Andretti fell through the beast to the back. It was three coming across the schute to two laps to go with Dale Earnhardt on the outside of Skinner. Off of 4, Jr. immediately ducks to the apron (back then, an extra lane formed after pit lane for the tri-oval, so the whole field moved down one lane) and Skinner kept in planted just above the apron. Kenny Wallace pushing Earnhardt. Earnhardt was pressuring Skinner to the apron, but Jr. was just sticking the nose in there space. Labonte backed out before the corner and filed in line behind Skinner above the apron. Jr. was along Skinner into, and too far into, turn 1 and had to lift which brought him inside Labonte. It was 4 wide with Wallace and Gordon as Jr. kept off Labonte and Jr. fell further back. Skinner, with no help fell back. Earnhardt, K. Wallace, and Nemecheck pulled away from the pack.

being a #24 JG fan from day one, i saw some great Winston Cup Nascar racing between the kid rookie and The Intimidating one. i do miss Sr so much. i was lucky to have shook Dale Sr's hand back when that was more important than his signature. being a Jeff Gordon fan instantly opened doors for me to be a Dale Sr fan. talk about the only rivalry that ever mattered. which put asses in them seats and Tshirts on the backs of fans...that was Dale & Jeff rivalry. Labonte, Wallace and Bodine all crashed dale out of disrespect. now days, they will wreck each other in a pissing match of whos cock is smaller. DALE & JEFF DID NOT WRECK ONE ANOTHER...thats Respect and Admiration for your fellow driver. NO OTHER Nascar drivers experienced what Dale & Jeff had..it was special and should be talked about.

Did anyone like Skinner? I remember I hated him because he wrecked Harry Gant late in a truck series race when that series was new. Handsome Harry ran a few races in the trucks after he retired from WInston Cup, and he was in the lead very late in a race. Can't say for sure it was the last lap, but it was right near the end, and Skinner put him in the wall and went on to win. Can you imagine wrecking Harry Gant? Drives me nuts to hear junior constantly run his dad’s win at talladega in 2000 down as if he could have/ should have won it. Dude, you never got passed your old man in the closing laps on a super-speedway in your life, and you weren’t going then. You could have been full throttle, pushed mike, had mike pull over and let you go... wouldn’t of mattered! Your old man would have found a way past you, or kept you behind him, no matter what. He was simply the “yoda” of that style of racing. Think of the runs you had on him in the iroc races, and he still beat you. The guy was a legend and the only way you would have won that race is if he had wanted to help you do so, but he wasn’t in that frame of mind then. 42 other guys felt the exact same way you did that day... could of, should of, blah, blah. He won. You got schooled. Simple as that. Let it go.
