Hows the volume on this unit? Truck GPS's should have loud volume control to compensate for truck noise. Also can it be used with cars as well?

Dale, I've been using this GPS for a while and love it. The only feature I can't figure out is to rename the device with my name instead of the default.

Now that you mention it. I don't recall how I got my name in there. I try and it tells me to click on the driver from the main menu but it won't let me edit it. Sorry, perhaps using the McNally dock which you use to update your maps, perhaps that software allows you to change it from there.

Paul Necko I think i paid like 57 dollars for the year, so i turn on my phones wifi hot spot when I am on the road and need that feature. The weather map overlay is actually a pretty cool feature. I was traveling through some bad snowy weather and it showed where the weather cleared up ahead and it was dead on accurate ad I passed through the heavy and lite snow clouds.

Dale to set up a ship via with the map, don't slide the map to where you want to set your ship via, instead touch the map with your finger where you want the ship via to go, even if its far away from the plus sign. Then zoom in all the way, then touch the spot again, the plus sign should be nearly centered in on the correct spot. Then go ahead and set up your ship via. Hope that helps.

This might be a dumb question, but do you want to shorten your miles? Does that cut down on pay some, or is the saved time worth it?

They give a projected amount of miles for each assigment. So if I drive less or more than those miles I get paid the same. Trying to drive less miles has to do with pay for performance bonuses. Less out of Route I have the more pfp I get. So in essence, the shorter I can drive offers me more money in the end.

This video sounds like an advanced course on how to use this thing. What happens when you type in an address and you get a circle at the bottom of the screen with the letters GPS in the center and a red line thru it? That tells me the GPS is not on.. So where is the ON button? I only want to know how to get around New Jersey without coming face to face with a bridge I cant fit under or be on a road that isn't a truck route

I've been using my TND 730 for four years now and so far, knock on wood, it hasn't routed me on a road with a low overhead yet. Nonetheless, I never pass under a low-overhead unless I know the height in any event. As I don't take anything for granted. I have also used my TND 730 in New York City and Long Island several times without any problems as well. Been to a railway drop yard in downtown Chicago surrounded by low overheads, and it routed me the only way in and the only way out with no problems.

I imagine it's in the settings. Some settings can only be chaged in truck mode versus car mode.

I had a Rand Mcnally and it freaking turned off randomly until it stopped working all together and have driven under low bridges in my car to test it and it doesn't tell me anything not happy with it but like the maps I wanted a nice gps for low bridges mostly and good maps but lets be honest all we need is google maps with Waze marked low bridges

+Ali Bokhari 1) Yes 2) If you set it up that way. It shows you two possible routes based on your route options. 3) Mine is always plugged in, so ot will last as long as the truck batteries last.

heighth isn't a word. it's just height. yes, long goes to length, wide goes to width, but height is just height. nice overview of the 730. I have a 720, but I'm thinking of trying out a Garmin 770.

+okan elkin Neither was Vodkafied until this year. But life is to much fun for me to worry about those sort of things. What gives another the authority to say what is or isn't a word. I am sure if people say it and the group of people using it understand it then it's a word.

The dictionary is the authority, plus it just sounds wrong. It's like when you hear someone say "acrossed" instead of "across". I just wanted to bring it to your attention so you could correct it in your day to day use, as well as future videos. People might hear you say it wrong and think that it's the correct way to say it. I'm sorry if I came off of rude, I certainly wasn't trying to be. I enjoyed your video nonetheless. Do you have any experience with the TND tablet, DEZLcam, or DEZL 770? Before the 730, did you use the 720? I currently have the 720 and am researching its replacement.

+yari16215 click on lower right corner button while looking at the map. Then choose preferences. I have had to reset me maps auto zoom several times but it's a quick fix after I do it a couple times. Also, be sure to update your GPS software through your computer regularly.

The first one I bought did that. I returned it like on like the last day I could and picked up another brand new one, and the second one worked perfectly. That was a little over three years ago and it is still working flawlessly today.

Omg A big freaking headache is what Rand McNally is! I've only been trucking for about 3 months and using Google maps is 100x's easier. All I have to do is use a little common sense when it comes to the routes it picks and if need be add via's to change the routes slightly. Also picking a destination on these is hellish and slow. I have yet to type in a destination successfully within the first 5 attempts. Plus saving addresses are easier and more organised. Rand needs to get their💩 together. I've had the Overdryve 8Pro and currently have the TND740. I've never been more disappointed in a GPS.

He is not doing it correctly. Read my post above. Also, don't go with the TND 740, go with a TND 730 or buy a used one. It's much better. When it comes to destinations, I look up the destinations in Google Earth on my laptop, find the truck entrance, then I place a push pin right in the truck entrance. Next, I right click the pushpin with my mouse in Google Earth, which lets me see the GPS coordinates, and then I enter the GPS coordinates in Rand McNally. That way, Rand McNally routes me perfectly directly to the truck entrance, then I save every destination in my address book. When I have to go back again, I just simply look up the destination and then route to it in no time. I'm like you, I never enter the addresses in Rand McNally because I haven't done it enough to do it well. So it takes too long for me. There are ways to work faster with Rand McNally, you just have to play with it to learn how.

You're not doing it right. With the map zoomed out a bit, just tap your index finger where you want your ship via to be, then zoom in, and you'll probably be a little off. Then tap your index finger where you want it to be until it is perfectly lined up, then hit add as via. What you're doing is dragging the map, which works but not anywhere near as easy or as well as what I just said above. In fact, I never ever drag the map, I just tap my index finger instead where I want to go and the map follows where I tap. Try it, it works astronomically far easier and far better I promise.

Nothing against your video at all, let's get that clear; I am very disappointed with my TND 730, and the way Rand Mcnally technical support brushed me off when I brought up the issues my unit has come up with. When it was purchased they promised a life time map upgrade through the dock, I've been connecting it for the past 20 months and it doesn't have an update for it; I bought a Garmin GPS, and this one gets a map update every couple of months and software update every 4 months average. My 730 has a few software issues, the clock that always shows at the bottom right corner changes each time the unit is turned off and on, which creates an issue when the night time and day time changes. Sometimes my ETA gets inaccurate because of this. Their technical support, truly sucks; they have ignored my requests and just shut down the email communication. I do not recommend their products, this is why I now own a Garmin trucker GPS.

THIS GPS is by far the worst truck GPS in all of existence. It won't update roads that have been there for years....it's miles off final location....and lots of times can't even find the address when literally every other GPS can, including my phone. Do not waist your money. Worst purchase I ever made.

I have been using my TND 730 flawlessly for over four years now. Now the first one I bought had a problem of cutting off periodically when I was going down the road and often during the most opportune times. However, when I bought it, it had a 30-day return policy. So I returned it and got another one. The second one, the one I'm still using today, has worked flawlessly ever since. In fact, I'm hoping it last until the TND 750 is released. As I hate the display screen in the TND 740 and I'm hoping Rand McNally switches back to the same display screen as the TND 730, as I know they received a ton of complaints because they changed the screen.
