Little research on the cemetery .... The Howell Cemetery consists of an acre of land, which originally belonged to Isaac Howell. Isaac brought his family from North Carolina and obtained land through the 1827 and 1832 land lotteries. He owned and operated the Howell-Green ferry, one of the 200 ferries providing access to Atlanta across the Chattahoochee River. The Howell family was one of the pioneering families who helped settle the land west of the Chattahoochee River in Campbell (now Cobb) County. Through the late 1990's, Howell descendents gathered on the second Saturday in August each year to clean the grounds. Since the turn of the century, however, there has not been a reunion of this kind. #graveyardshift #shifters

My mother's family has a small cemetery. I think the oldest headstone belongs to my great-great-grandfather on the paternal side of Mother's family. There is much family history recorded on the stones. There are few spots left for burial, but there is one for my mother when her time comes. It was important to her to be buried with her immediate family. She is 93 and has buried two husbands. She had a plot next to my father in another location but gave it over to my brother when he died. She did not want to be buried way up north with her second husband and his family line. A number of years ago I lived across the street from a large cemetery. Every time there was a burial we would get an invisible visitor. I got used to it. I usually told them that they had passed and needed to move on.

I think it's great that you do what you do. This particular episode brought to light the significant changes that have occurred in our nation over the past couple hundred years. I'm not sure about your family, but mine has "atomized" as I call it. There's no family home, there's no gatherings, there's no seeing relatives. We used to have a few patriarchs and matriarchs who kept everyone together and if they snapped their fingers, everyone came when called. When they died, no one of the next generation took up the job. I'm the generation after that, a Gen-Xer at 49 years old. I have not only noticed that the family has atomized and doesn't communicate anymore, but I've also noticed the drastic drop in the amount of family. My parents were born into families where they had 6 or 7 siblings. They each had on average of 2 kids (my cousins). My generation has next to no kids, though there are a few exceptions. I hope for all of your sakes that you hold on to your family, especially the ones that cause all the trouble. Once it's gone, it's nothing but a distant memory like those gravestones. I have never wanted to go back in time, aside from wanting to be able to see how families used to be. They used to end up all in the same cemetery. What a nice thought.

My family has a special graveyard for the family. My father’s side were migrant workers. His grandparents worked for a family for years that he and his parents continued to help till early in his youth. When the family sold the property, they left a huge part of land to them which was then used as a cemetery. We have cousins, Aunts & Uncles, great-Grandparents, even my grandpa’s former wives buried there. It’s kinda cool! This land is out here in Texas, right outside of Karnes City. It use to be in a town called Riverdale, but the town isn’t a town anymore.

Hey Dalen, I went back and Rosemary first came up in the grave yard you found on the side of the road. The one that was really run down and you couldn't believe it was there. Also wanted to say, Oklahoma has LOTS of family graveyards, tucked back into the woods and all. Might check one out sometime. 😊 Also answer to your question C You!!! When you hit 10 you should stay at a haunted place overnight like the Stanley hotel, queen marry ship etc! Also if you’re ever back in Ohio you should hit up the poasttown cemetery to see if you can contact any train victims that might be buried there!
