Thanks for posting Kath, I received my black sapote from you last month. I'm looking forward to fruit time :) I have also started my own plants from seed, I hope they do well. Thunder and lightning here in FNQ today, my dogs are freaking out.

I bought one from cairns and found some little white worms when I cut it open and they are still moving. What are the worms?
@daleysfr4 жыл бұрын
These are Fruit Fly Larvae. If you are growing your own fruit, net your tree with exclusion netting to keep them away.

That Chocolate Pudding fruit looks really yummy! HELP ... saving an avocado tree. My neighbor several days ago decided to uproot and get rid of an avocado tree in a common area to our properties. He had his workmen remove the tree and I was sad so I asked if he could transplant them into my yard, which he did. The problem is that there are lots and lots of leaves on it, the tree itself is about 8 feet tall, was fairly healthy, and had a lot of leaves on it. They did not save the root ball, so what they ended up doing is pulling it out and leaving some roots attached to it. After I saw that I am afraid it is just going to wither and die. Already a couple of days later leaves are falling off it. Is there anything I can do to save this tree? - should I pull all the leaves off it? - should I top it off down to some smaller height? - should I cut all the branches off it? I don't know what to do, but I'm thinking there might be something that would keep this alive, even if it is cut back severely and takes a long time to recover?

Cut it right back to a short stump. You need to remove an equivalent amount from the top of the tree to compensate for the damage that has been done to the roots. If 80% of the roots have been damage, cut the top back by 80%. Water it in well with a seaweed solution to encourage new roots and cross your fingers and hope that it reshoots for you. Good luck!!

@@daleysfr Thank you for your advice. If I might ask another question of you. When I water it should I mix in some rooting hormone, or aspirin or something?
@daleysfr4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend just some seaweed solution and water to start with.

@@daleysfr Thank you so much for the suggestions. Do you mind my asking what is a seaweed solution. Where can I get it, and is there a brand of version would recommend? Happy 2020, thanks again.

@@justgivemethetruth Seasol - it is liquid seaweed which helps with root formation so is perfect for using to water in any freshly planted trees.

looks amazing, will it pollinate my neighbours persimmon tree? currently it provides heaps of seedless fruit.
@daleysfr4 жыл бұрын
Persimmon and black sapote are not compatible pollinators. If the persimmon is not setting fruit, plant another variety of persimmon nearby, this will help with pollination.
