Jamo S 803s (white of course, and paired with the S 810 Sub and S 83 Center for our TV/movie pleasure)... they have their faults, and are by no means perfect, but big spacious sound and from a relatively small footprint. not to mention all i have to do is remind myself of their price (my entire speaker setup all in was less than the Dali's) and well, it's a hard package to beat.

I just got my Oberon 3's yesterday and I'm thrilled with them. I went to demo the Q Acoustics 3020i, Dali Spector 2 and Kef q150. The Oberon's were a curved ball and I was immediately taken with them and ended up ordering a pair. In my tiny listening room (12ft square) they are perfect and a sub isn't required. This is probably due to the 7" bass/ mid driver and the reason I busted my budget.
@TheSputnikman3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the review, Andrew! It was interesting to see your take on them. Im an owner of Oberon 1 pair and very happy with these speakers. There are many interesting things about Dali design and as Andrew mentioned - there is no doubt that heart and investments have gone there, but one particular thing is about not toeing in these speakers (it is a recomendation in user manual that Dali provides). As far as I found and understood what they did is boosted high frequencies just a bit on the axis of the speaker, which would make them brighter, but off the axis (no toe-in) they get more neutral sound (i guess less "exciting" what Andrew calls it). Also that is how you get a wider angle of pleasant sound all over your room. This really matters if you move over the room while enjoying the music and makes it nice and easy live with them. So trust engineers and do not toe-in them unless you prefer that brighter sound. If so - you can also just simply use the tone control. ;) Cheers!

DALI rocks! I have a pair of Oberon 5 floorstanders since 2019 and I love how they look and how big they sound for their size. They also kept up like champs when I upgraded from a 35W Cambridge AXA35 to a 72W Rega Elex-R, now they go VERY loud without a hint of distortion. Of course I don't push them that hard, just did it once for testing their limits and I didn't go that far. I have to protect what's left of my 47 year old hearing but it's nice to know what they are capable of.

It's the first time I'm watching one of your videos, and I got to say, what a great review! I love that you both gave your opinions, and that you compared the Dali's to other speakers that you've listened to, because as a consumer, it is nearly impossible to compare multiple speakers before you buy. I own a whole bunch of Dali speakers in the same price range - the Dali Zensor 5, Zensor 1, Zensor Pico, Alteco C-1 and SUB E9F. The Zensor series is the predecessor to the Oberon series, and they sound fairly similar, with the Zensors being a tad brighter. The reason I chose Dali was the beautiful and compact design of the Zensor series. I’m running a 7.1.4 home theater setup in our living room, and the speakers just blend in because of their design and small footprint. The Zensor Pico makes a fantastic surround speaker in an environment where you (or your better half) really don’t want to see any speakers. However, when I bought my speakers, I did not have the chance to listen to many different speakers, so I honestly have no idea how my speakers sound in comparison to other speakers. Thus, I've recently become curious to know whether there is any speaker line suitable for home theater use out there which can provide a noticeable upgrade in sound quality while maintaining the pleasing and compact design of the Dali Zensor series. I would accept to move up in price (say max 2000 USD a pair of tower speakers), but I would not accept to have bulky speakers, especially not as surrounds or wall-mounted heights. Having seen and listened to a lot of different speakers, and now the Dali Oberon 1’s which are quite similar to mine, is there any speaker line that comes to mind? Looking forward to more reviews, not least of Dali speakers!

I use the Oberon 1 as a surround speaker with the Oberon 7 in front, Oberon Vokal Centre and the E12-F sub - completely blown away, my ears love them. The Oberon 7's for music in stereo are absolutely sublime and in my opinion sound better without the sub. I have matched this system to the Denon X3700H which does a great job and is a good match budget wise for this set. If we follow the rule of diminishing returns there's not much need to upgrade any further. Having said that I'm going to contradict myself and admit that I have bought in the Dali Opticon 2's and Opticon Vokal (with ribbon tweeter). Can't wait to start playing but will keep them out of the system for the 100 plus hours of run in they need - they only get better.

Really wanted the opticons but they were out of my budget. I finished my study and got my hands (after testing in store) on some second hand rubicon 5 and nad c388. I sold my zensors to a friend and still go to him: still blown away and for a new price of 3000 for a set to the 400 to my zensors, the zensors get 80-85% of the quality and most people won't notice the difference that much! Dali puts sooo much quality in their lower tier speakers!!!

Hi Andrew & Kristi. Thanks very much for your review on the Oberon 1. I was looking for a small speaker that is easy to place (max:12" from back wall), with an open midrange and clear, sparkling treble (many/most people seem to prefer a rolled-off/laid-back sound... I don't!) and... come in in a light-oak(ish) veneer. After watching your video I decided to go for the Dali Oberon 1. Tbh, I haven't heard them yet, as I don't have a dealer in my area to audition 'em. Therefor I had to order 'em online. (I now have a 30days return garanty though) I also ordered the same Solidsteel SS-6 stands you're using in the video. I think they look fantastic on those stands! To me the only small visual drawback on the Dali's are the 4 black holes on the front of the cabinet. (it won't stand out on the black version, but with the white and light-oak version,..hmm, bummer) But, hey...for only € 398/pair (here in the Netherlands) you can't have everything. Looking forward to hear them in my own room. (upcoming saturday) Keep up the good work!

Have a couple of Dali bookshelf speakers, they are all solid across the board. The Epicon series are truly stunning. The build and finish on those are breathtaking. I’ve always wanted a set of Epicon 2s in one of the wood finishes. Those are work of art.

A rock solid review. I bought a pair of rubicon 2 for the office but they were way too powerful for that room, I stepped down to a pair of DALI Menuets which were perfect and with being so impressed I bought Rubicon 5 for the living room which I think are incredible, however, finding an amp that can power them the way they're supposed to be driven is proving expensive. 86db and 4ohms load. I tested the Oberon and to me the bass was a bit loose. The rubicon upgrade, although expensive, was worth the extra time it took to save up the extra money.

Thank you Andrew, also the additional comments from Kristi. I own Yamaha WXA-50 and Dali Spektor 1, and Yamaha NS-SW050, a humble set up indeed, but it sounds so nice on my desk, my next set will be the Oberon 1 and Cambridge Audio AXR100, the sub will remains the same Yamaha.

Hello Andrew. I'm a happy subscriber to your channel. I am danish, Dali speakers are danish made by a team of very dedicated musiclovers. Brands like LYNGDORF and NAD. I think you will find the products interesting. For a lot of years, my 5.1 had been predessors of the speakers you talk about in this review. Dali 202, 505 and SC-7 with Cambridge reciever.

Spot on! Auditions can be deceiving though, definitive difference in performance with budget amps vs powerful amps they use in the listening rooms. The tweeter is 29mm if I recall right not your standard inch tweeter and it does make a difference to the Vocals...

Hi Andrew! Your better half ( the wife or the bride) are wrong about the speaker surface. The coating is not veneer, but it is vinyl. Please test bigger models, such as (bookshelf) Oberon 3. Oberon 5 and 7 (floor stands both). High End models, like Opticon, Rubicon. A good small bookshelf speaker is the Menuet. Name DALI come Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries. Now i have Dali Zensor 3 and SUB E-9 F. Zensors i will update Rubicon 5 or Opticon 5. Yesterday i ordered Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M DAC.

Hello Andrew, I find it incredibly easy to listen to your reviews. What a well spoken, articulate young man you are. I have a question please; in a 3.2 home theater setup does the Denon S920W provide sufficient power to these speakers as you caution? I’ve been researching speakers for quite some time. First time having a go and I thought these would look remarkably handsome as L/R but will they get the power they need with this entry level receiver? Paired with Focal 300 IW6 center channel and two SVS SB-1000 Pro’s. Have a great night and thank you again for another great review.

Nice and detailed review of Oberon’s. I love the tonality of Dali’s and have a Oberon 3 in my setup. Was wondering can you not review Dali Opticon 6 based stereo / home theatre setup? I don’t see any comparison video online amongst Dali Opticon 6 and Klipsch RP8000F.

Such a nice review. And as always I'm thoroughly enjoying the conversation between you and Kristi. I hope you get to check out more DALI products. I've got a pair of Oberon 5 tower speakers and think they are great. And especially for what I'm guestimating would be about $1000.

Owning the predecessors, Zensor 1, I'm happy to see some love for Dali in this channel. Are you considering taking a look at their higher up Opticon MkII, Rubicon or Epicon series? :) I'm currently considering an upgrade to either B&W 705 S2, Rubicon 2 or perhaps just Opticon 2 Mkii

I'm really intrigue by this speaker. Great price, I like the footprint, and the overall look. Sorry to hear about the damage in transit. I checked out all the pictures from their website and there seems to be intentional markings on the woofer, like someone dragging their fingernail on leather. That's an interesting design choice as I normally don't think "distressed" when I think of woofers. Great Review.

Yep. Andrew’s review of the Klipsch RP-8000F’s influenced my purchase of my unbeatably priced R-620F’s. His Jamo 803 HCS 5 speaker set review influenced my purchase of those - which at $229 on Amazon is still an amazing deal.

One of the things I found interesting about this review is that I keep asking people what speaker I should get for good dynamics at extremely low volumes, and the answer I keep getting back is the Dali Menuet SE. Now, granted, that's a completely different price-point, but it's still a bit strange that another speaker from the same brand should have the opposite performance-to-volume curve. I'd welcome any thoughts that anyone had -- including, perhaps belatedly, any other suggestions for hyper-low-volume excellence. (The Amphion Argon 1's seem to be popular for this application as well, e.g.)

Great Review Andrew. I have the bigger Oberon 5 and like you say careful partnering is needed amplifier wise. I have the NAD T758 and it struggles to drive these speakers. I had to crank the dial to get any real volume from them. I added a M2si which drives them easily. The vol dial barely moves on the MF amp but the speakers come alive (with Arylic S50+ Pro / Qobuz). I also found a very slight toe-in was needed to get the best imaging from the Dali's
@WhatEver-dx3eu3 жыл бұрын
I don't know if the NAD can drive the DALI's or not (although I gather that the brands get combined very often), but the way you describe it, this is a classic case of confusing relative gain with output power. "My amplifier has much more power than that one as it goes way louder when it's only turned half-way up" type of thing. Complete misunderstanding. Do yourself a favour and google the subject so you understand that driving a speaker has nothing to do with the position of the volume control but everything to do with capability to drive low impedances, decent damping factor, low distortion, dynamic capability, etc, etc.

Nice review. I remember hearing the Dali Zensor Pico at Yodobashi Camera in Tokyo and just being in love with them for the size/cost. I’ve now got those and Zensor 5s in my living room casual system. Super sounding and nice looking.

I own these oberon1. Amazing speakers for the size! If I had to say one thing, it's that it lacks a bit of punch, energy as you mentionned. And i 'd like to ask you, what amplifier can bring them a sound more punchy, more energic ?? With a budget around 500€. Thks a lot ! Great review

With that budget I would suggest Cambridge Audio AXR100. I now, it is closer to 600 than 500 in price, but it definitely kicks ass!

Andrew, how would you compare these to the Focal 806s you reviewed last year? I asked the same question in the Focal 806 Thread, only realizing that the review was old and you may not see it (DOH). The street price difference is not as big as the list price, putting the 806's in range. FWIW, they'll be the L/R in a brand-matching 5.1 "music-first" system which will serve double duty as a HT rig, with a ID Subwoofer to be named later. and I'm a dedicated acoustic jazz/classical listener. yes, my wife and I DO listed to other types of music, but first and foremost I want the aforementioned styles done right. I want Kind of Blue to sound like Kind of Blue. Thanks for your reply and your outstanding channel! :)
@ben23a313 жыл бұрын
Great review Andrew ! Not a fan of those Dali's because of their low sensitivity tho. Their price point doesn't justify the required front end needed to get the most out of them. Also, really really really appreciate that you understand/consider that most of your fans aren't "pure" 2 channel listeners only with all media. By adding the sub and center to the review, that added insight separates you from most 👍🏽 as for next review wishes.., Wharfdale Evo 4.2's or the Triangle Genese Trio perhaps?

Hi Andy, I'm thinking of buying the new version of the Rega Kyte speakers. I had the original version from 1992 and wished I never got rid of them. In the UK the new version are retailing at £499. I appreciate you sharing, but I have to admit, I find it funny when people say, "I don't want to admit it..." It's okay to prefer something over something else, even if what you prefer is less expensive or less notable (in the eyes of someone else). The E 9F is a good little sub, nothing wrong with that.
