Brilliant Analysis. The one thing that Donna Reed had going for her is that she was a brilliant dresser. Her and Jane Wyman (RIP) as Angela Channing were some of the best dressed ladies of their generation. When Davis died it was gut wrenching to watch that episode on Jock's necessary departure. All the life left the show and JR was never the same. Miss Ellie was the heart & soul of this family- and this show, at least for the first few seasons. She was the real wielder of strength of all the Ewings, with the most soft-spoken and gentle voice, she could swing the pendulum of the whole family. Her words of disappointment could burn terribly, and her wisdom could mend long-fought battles. I think to Bobby Wills are very sacred especially when he found out that a Bogus Will was in JR's "Secret Briefcase" that Julie Grey looked at as collateral. He felt that a promise was a promise, yet what he conveniently forgot was that Miss Ellie was so desperate to keep Southfork going, she turned to Jock for help and the rest is history.
@SaxonC7 жыл бұрын
Ares99999 Bobby did have some boneheaded dialogue that really never made sense. The first episode of the series, Bobby told JR that "Valene had every right to be at southfork, including him". Really Bobby? Sometimes Bobby was a Buffoon! lol

I think it was because she was Lucy's Mama and a part of him felt bad knowing how awful the Family was to her back in the day.

Miss Ellie should have told Vaughn Leland that she will definitely never forgive him for persuading JR to mortgage Southfork because he knew it was cold blooded.

And what's sad is that even AFTER coming so close to losing Southfork, both Elite & Jock STILL allowed JR to have power. He still made risky deals that could've cost EO. As much as I adore ellie & jock, they are part to blame. They continued to let JR mess up
@scotterwin94453 жыл бұрын
They had no choice. Jock couldn't handle the strain and Bobby wanted no part of the crooked dealings.
@KAMALAISHERNAME3 жыл бұрын
@@scotterwin9445 As PARENTS, Jock & Ellie definitely had a choice. Had they nipped it in the bud FROM DAY ONE & not coddled JR, treating him as though he was the favorite & allowing his shenanigans to go on, neither they nor the ranch would've been put in the position it was in....MULTIPLE TIMES. Nice try tho.

@@KAMALAISHERNAME it is very interesting to see how JR turned out the way he did when he had a mother like Miss Ellie. You would thought he would've been more like Bobby or Gary. Maybe being first born and being his namesake also, Jock messed him up.

Miss Ellie was pretty much hot air. She always played the aggrieved party, but there were episodes that showed that she COULD control her sons when she wanted to. But she generally does nothing at all until something blows up in her face. And every single time, she talks a big game about how she would never let this happen again. Then she does. And again, rinse and repeat. She eventually lost credibility to me. Moral posturing is useless when its JUST posturing.
