I have used Simple Green (eco friendly) for the past 20 years for all sorts of cleaning, but especially I have used it with micro fiber rag on my personal 9 year old F150 that is all leather interior and followed up after dry with a leather conditioner and it has remained what I consider a 8 out of 10 results and no damage has been made using these 3 steps! Thanks Scott for another great subject as usual!

0:05 to 3:54 if you want a quick before/after for how it dulled the leather's surface. A sealer or something like griots 3-in-1 might shine it back up, but yeah, keep in mind it's knocking down the surface quite a bit through abraision a'la wet-sanding.

Leather is supposed to have a matte finish, not be shiny. That's how it comes from the factory. look it up

A decent way to think about the eraser is using it, in a sense, as you would claybar/nanoskin. If the paint isn't contaminated, avoid claying. If the leather isn't caked with grime, don't erase. But for those off chance cars with hammered leather, these erasers are a great trick.

IMO the best leather cleaner is Quick and Brite paste used full strength. The dirt on a white couch came off instantly - same for my cars. Leaves leather supple. Just rub it on with a cloth and wait a minute or two and wipe off. Never seen anything like it after trying everything to clean a white leather sofa.

Some will think I'm crazy but I use Tide and a paint brush or horse hair brush to deep clean my car's leather anually and Magic Eraser and Chemical Guys brand to detail. For weekly cleaning/maintenance I use a soft damp cloth and either Surf City brand or Chemical Guys brand cleaner/conditioner. Unlike cleaners made soecifically for leather that don't deep clean because they're too mild, Tide and warm water gets the dirt, oil and grime out. But you MUST remove any residual Tide with leather cleaner and follow up with conditioner. It's kind of like using clay bar for your paint.

I used magic eraser after using a color lock brush and leather cleaner to then take out old SMALL spot stains that didn't come out of beige old leather (gently, worked amazing on my old car) then treated with a nourishing leather cream. I wouldn't recommend on large areas but it's great for small stubborn stains.

Yes you are right Scott use it once, then keep maintaining the seats with either Lexol Wipes or Meguiars Rich Leather Wipes or what ever you use., Magic Eraser is not something you use everytime you clean your seats. I used Magic Eraser on My Infiniti FX45 that has Weat Color interior it's like a very light beige Color. They came out Factory New. I used 1 part Degreaser "Grease Lightning" Sold at Home Depot, to 5 parts water and a Magic eraser with light pressure, on my Wheat Color door panels and Leather Seats. Came out Factory New.
@mypointofview60564 жыл бұрын
I have 20 years detailing experience, and this video is wrong on so many points. 1) You never and I mean never spray anything directly onto leather seats. 2) A magic eraser can be made soft by soaking. 3) You do not apply excessive pressure a light pressure is all that is needed. 4) You don't have to use harsh chemicals with a magic eraser, you can soak it in plain water, even though I like a mix of water and vinegar. Then you go over it when cleaned with a protector product. A magic eraser is not meant for continual use. Maybe once a year. Go back and do these steps and you will probably want to redo this video.
@Kaotix_music2 жыл бұрын
all my car friends say DO NOT use a magic eraser. Yes its abrassive....but its not sand paper. Its abrassive only enough to take out the oil, dirt and grime. I used it once every two months....i literally ONLY use water, and it works wonders. Leather for the last 2 years has still looked like i just bought the car. I dont like that bullshit i hear to not use one....because to everyones theory....my leather should be gone and faded by now

My most aggressive approach is a Dobie sponge with Meg's Super Degreaser. Not too creative I know, and sounds a bit harsh with the SD, but with heavy oils or grease it really gets at it in a hurry. The SD is surprisingly safe all in all, but I would watch the runs (as with any cleaner, you can see in this vid), they can be hard to blend out if left too long. The Dobie sponge is the real secret here, great on everything a magic eraser might do, but fairly less risky and aggressive.

You shouldn't ever use a dry magic eraser!!! For cleaning in the car you need to just leave that magic eraser in some water it will soften it up even more than just wetting it. So when you go to use it squeeze it out & spray cleaner on the magic eraser & gently wipe. Ppl never ever use it dry & that's for cleaning anything!! There's also no need to put that pressure on it or go back n forth with it like that either! Yes it'll dull the leather bc you just took the protective top coat off by using it dry! This was a very incorrect way of showing ppl how to do this!!

Magic Eraser and melamine sponges are similar to 3000 grit sandpaper, not 5000 grit. Really aggressive stuff! Never use one on leather.
@dallaspaintcorrectionautod83437 жыл бұрын
thats not true..we know your statement to be false because its a government requirement for a company to class a product as abrasive when the grit is lower than 6000...so the magic eraser is probably more in line with 6000 grit...but i agree that a magic eraser can damage the leather if used wrong for sure..another thing to consider is when using the magic eraser and more PRESSURE is applied the abrasive number can be lower than 5000 grit because of the pressure being applied but they don't have to classify it as an abrasive because on its own it meets the government requirement unless a lot of pressure is applied...kind of crazy how these laws work...much love Toni:)
