In the first technique do you press below the xiphoid process? Or do you start with the fingers on top of the xyphoid process and push the fascia down from there. Thanks, this is very helpful. I am studying massages but we haven't explored these specific abdominal conditions so I am trying ti find litterature and specifc techniques for the abdomen and how to help with these conditions.

I self administer as I can find the spots when I reach the top of my breath and feel pain, then hold or press harder at top of each breathe until no more pain.

It depends on the person. IBD is just a symptom, and there can be many different causes.

i’m not good with the anatomical landmarks. All I know is once I hit xiphoid process I start pressing downward and that makes me feel better. I don’t know anything about hooking the facia. It doesn’t feel any different to me but when I do this for a while...the pressing down, I feel better. My sliding hiatal hernia feels like a vice grip is on my abdomen and someone is slowly turning it or it feels like I got punched in my stomach. It is so painful.😢

Yes, there many ways to provide some relief from a sliding hiatal hernia while the hiatus opening in the diaphragm attempts to heal. Good luck with yours sir.

I've always had a hard time teaching this hernia as "self-care" technique, but it can be done. It''s most effective when performed standing to allow gravity to help glide the stomach down. I'll try and make a video but I think you're going to have to experiment to really get it... that's how I discovered it 35 years ago and still use it today.
