Daltos absolutely does speak the truth, despite the jokes. You get the satisfaction of going off on something stupid without actually annoying anyone and dont prolong the anger/frustration by avoiding having to deal with equally stupid internet fights. Writing something and never sending it IS in fact cathartic and gets it out, whoever doubts this has never tried it. I personally work through emotional times by writing all my thoughts as best I can in a note to myself, and then I revisit it a day later when I can think logically about things again (rather than purely emotionally), and I write what actually needs communicated while being able to take my emotions into account as well, just without letting them dominate my thinking.

I've seen therapists and psychologists recommend it as well - seems to be a commonly agreed upon form of therapy that generally works with a lot of people. Personally, I didn't get anything from any writing attempts, despite being someone who had written pieces quite often during that time period, but art worked for me pretty well - even if I wasn't drawing for the sake of 'venting,' it sure did come out as something visually fucked up when it was done.
