I know this theme quite well. My own trauma wouldn't look out of place in a BioWare game, honestly. Family drama, deep emotional pain, the whole nine yards. I try not to let it consume me, but some days are harder than others. This video is amazing and its message a damned important one. Thank you.

I always romance Fenris and Cullen. It gives them a chance to find peace and happiness that they never had, and being with them while saying the right things can give them a chance to move on from their past. While I befriend Zevran every single time, I always romance Alistair. He has his share of trauma, but not to the extent that these 3 do. Fiona couldn’t raise Alistair, as the Chantry would have strong armed her into giving him up. But she also didn’t want Maric to raise him in his court, and made him promise that he wouldn’t. She didn’t want that life for him, or for him to face the hatred and cruelty from that life. So Maric had no choice but to give Alistair to someone he thought he could trust to raise him. He just didn’t choose the right person, as Eamon had failed Alistair completely. Eamon should have protected him, made sure that he was happy, and was at least treated with dignity. Instead, he was too blinded by his love for Isolde to stand up for Alistair, nor did he try hard enough to stop the rumors that Alistair was his. Isolde hated the rumors, and by extension, Alistair. He was forced to sleep in the stables, forced to do grueling chores, was likely beaten for perceived wrongs, and it’s not confirmed but I think there were even days that he was starved. By the time he was 10 it was clear that he wasn’t welcome or wanted, and Isolde couldn’t take it anymore. So she demanded that he be sent away to the monastery to be raised by the Chantry, and he was understandably heartbroken and angry. After a fight in which he shattered the amulet that he was told was his mother’s, he refused to see or talk to Eamon to the point where Eamon just stopped visiting. At the monastery he was ignored to the point were he simply got into mischief just to get some attention, and the only solace he had was the training. Poor man was miserable and lonely, and only saw a bleak future waiting for him until Duncan saw him that day and recruited him. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to feel the crushing loneliness, the knowledge of being unwanted, and the misery he must have felt. Then, he was helpless as the men who finally made him feel like he had a home, and the man that he looked up to like a father, were killed due to betrayal. How he managed to never change for the worst despite everything he went through is beyond me.

same, I can't help myself with Cullen and Fenris. Fenris in particular :P I wanted to romance him even before the game came out :P I always, ALWAYS romance him (unless it's for a tribute, like the one I did for Anders/Justice and everyone I have with Solavellan) but I have a really hard time deciding between Alistair and Zevran. My canon is Alistair and remaining his mistress, and I agree that he has had a rough time too :( and he's a lot stronger than people give him credit for

The Nightingale Exactly! How is it possible that he’s so popular among the fan base, yet underrated at the same time? Do they not take the time to see past what they perceive as the character who’s the dorky comic relief? They comment and say he’s annoying and whiny, but do they take the time to actually know him? Good lord, he’s not a complicated puzzle to figure out! He’s a great guy who’s easy to get to know, and makes a great friend and partner. Plus, like you said he’s stronger than people give him credit for. Not everyone can bounce back and still smile or crack jokes after every thing he went through.

The Nightingale Maric really should have let the Cousland’s raise Alistair. At least Bryce and Eleanor would have treated him right, and would have given him everything he lacked during his childhood.

@@sophiacousland3452 yeah, and imagine him and Fergus being the best of friends. And then, if the Cousland Warden is female, she and Alistair get attracted to one another. But Fergus does NOT like their chemistry ... damn, talk about a great idea for a fanfiction :D
