However, in 1938 there were close to 500,000 Jews living in Palestine (which was called that by the British beginning in 1918 - not the Arab population prior to that). I think it was said here more as a "non expensive " (compare to imported soaps you could by in western europs back then) more than "non quality" one. He said the same about oranges.
