Can someone explain the rules of dambe to me? First time on this channel but this seems really interesting. Also can you fight with your front hand wrapped or does the wrapped hand stay behind for some tactical reason

Fights are divided into 3 rounds. One hand is primarily used for spacing and defense (the sheild), the other is used for attack (the spear). The objective is to knock your opponent down. Only knockdowns using your spear count as a valid knockdown. Some ppl use a 3 knockdown rule, others use a "one-and-done" knockdown rule where only a single knockdown will merit victory. If no knockdowns happen, the fight is a draw, so there is a sense of urgency.

Yes, my feelings according this kind of "fighting" may result from a lack understanding and too poor knowledge of culture, but ... that doesn't bother me at all. I exspected some kind of real fight and not some guys fooling around. But I'm fine with this, now I know what "Damben" is and I don't need to bore myself by looking more Damben videos.
