It is so sad to see how few people watch these videos or make comments. This is heady stuff and should be watched by millions.

Aid and the aid industry are taboo subjects which no one talks or writes about. Dr. Moyos book has boldly shed light into the misconceptions of aid effectiveness and has put forth an African solution to an African problem. Her book outlines ways to finance Africas development other than aid. I personally believe that It is individuals ingenuity and entrepreneurship which brings about development not government, not CSOs or aid.

Japan is the worlds leading donor of foreign aid and approximately two-thirds of its Official Development Assistance (ODA) is funnelled to Asian recipients like China. In terms of developmental aid alone, $34 bn has been given to China by Japan.

I agree in part, but something is missing: impact of MNCs in Africa and the bi-lateral nature of aid. I would argue that civil society in Africa should continue to receive aid, but all aid to governments should stop. Without aid, there will be a vacuum that the amoral private sector would quickly exploit, with even worse consequences. That is the problem with the perspective the west: they never get at the core issues but rather navigate around the perimeter. In other words,it is narrow minded.

By all means, get rid of the aid and the welfare mentality. But don't replace it with the Welfare State. Replace it with Free Markets and Liberty.

Nope, quite the opposite. Sounds like she wants to give capitalism and accountable governance a chance!

I do support Dambisa Moyo's argument that Africa cannot relly on aid and expect to pull out of economic darkness. But there is one thing I would like to correct here, China has been receiving aid from Japan that amounts to billions of dollars! In the year 2000 alone, they received about $2billion in aid from Japan.
