I think it’s a little different as Drake’s ascension occured when streaming was a new form of music consumption.. companies like Apple Music and Spotify were getting off the ground in 2015/16/17. They weren’t publicly traded yet! Platforms like SoundCloud were still more popular! I say that to say this; Drake quite literally built these streaming platforms off the back of his music! They needed far far more than he needed them. Drake played the biggest part in normalizing as a form of music consumption. This is something we have to consider when discussing Drakes rise. They used him to build the current model….he should’ve retired and negotiated equity after Views. That’s when his leverage peaked imo!
