Parkinson, 27/02/1998 - Dame Edna and bridesmaid Madge Allsop, with Jacques Villeneuve. And Kiri Te Kanawa! Not my copyright - just sharing found ephemera.

Apparently, when 'Madge' (Emily Perry) retired from performing in her 90s she moved into an elderly care home in South London which was rather substandard. Upon hearing of this, Barry Humphries took it upon himself to locate much better lodgings - ultimately finding her a place at Brinsworth House, Twickenham (a residential and nursing retirement home for former theatre and entertainment professionals). She passed away in 2008, at age 100.

Imagine a comedian getting away now with the comments Edna makes to Dame kiri about “Māoris are the eskimos of New Zealand” ??? Lol… and being cannibals etc. … he would’ve been cancelled the next day! This is why shows aren’t funny anymore because the essential nature of comedy is offence. Without offence of some kind there is no humour. You’ll Notice that late night chat shows are no longer funny anymore because guests aren’t allowed to offend any group at all, whether minority or majority. The easily pricked egos of modern day sensibilities have ruined the world completely.
