Terrific. She knew singing. Undoubtedly still does. I heard her once in rehearsal in NY. Strauss four last. So beautiful and elegant. And her voice is just from the heavens.

I heard Kiri for the first time decades ago, in "Beim Schlafengehen" by R. Strauss and I fell for her immediately. I've bought almost all her CD's, a lot of them operas, that I love very much. She does not only have the most beautiful voice, she can also act. I got my computer a short time ago and there are a lot of music with, also from the later years, on it. She has meant so much to me and still does, and i'll love her for the rest of my life!

I heard her recording of Beim Schlaffengehen in the Year of Living Dangerously. I absolutely fell in love with it when I heard it. It made me enjoy the movie all the more.

I would listen to Kiri sing about anything. if you are gonna always compare singers to others that gets dangerous. Sound is a matter of opinion. I would prefer listening to Kiri sing something wrong than most others doing it right. Her voice has a tone and quality that is unmatched to me and I love her in every role she does. Sure others have done better at certain roles. But others have done better than them to. it could go on and on if we always compare and never just enjoy. I LOVE YOU KIRI!!!

¡Viva Kiri !

Kiri Te Kanawa is one of my inspirations for singing! Her Mimi is so gentle and fragile. And I love the beautiful sweetness to it of her voice. Please do check out my rendition of Donde Lieta. Thank you in advance for viewing!

@Carolynnhall I know... ppl think, since there's no coloratura, and the high notes are spread out, it's somehow easier... I personally find it the most difficult, over bel canto and the hardest Strauss!

@eugenelohks Very true. If it was easy, there would be more than a handful of singers who are convincing in this music. It requires, MUCH more than bel canto in terms of mental focus on using the words to shape the drama of the lyrics.

Not enough metal/squillo to penetrate through any Italian orchestra. This is a voice so light that it needed to remained in Mozart.

you must be kidding. this is Mimi, sick at the moment, mostly tuberculosis. you want her voice strong like a cow?

Actually, I don't understand why people make the mistake of confusing talking & keying, typing, printing, etc. Talking involves sound.

I've heard Dame Kiri live and had trouble hearing her.. No doubt she had the most beautiful voice but it didn't always carry well live..

No such thing as an outdated technique, just lack of technique which she'd certainly didn't have.

yeah yeah, listen to the last note she sings, you dont know if it's des ( which it is on the partiture )or c lol

No doubt the voice is beautiful but it's too pretty. This is an aria about heartbreak. Give me a glutteral attack on the top Bflat to sound as if Mimi's voice, in all her sickness, is cracking...give me a more piercing tone or something. On an emotional front, this pales in comparison to Caballe, Scotto, Tebaldi, and Gheorghiu. It's too pretty. I don't wanna hear pretty. I wanna heartbreak.
@jessicazeller80605 жыл бұрын
theodore braden I had to record this aria the day after I put my childhood dog to sleep. I learned it last year when I broke up with my boyfriend. I couldn’t sing the B flat without choking up a little. Ricordo is the Italian word for “memories,” so it was gut wrenching.

If you are more looking for fake emotion and pseudo-drama rather than a deep and touching interpretation then Te Kanawa is indeed not the right choice. For you.

@@Beadle_Bamford no I'm looking for vocal expression. Opera to me is acting with the voice. Over the years I can appreciate some singers being "understated." Not everyone is a callas. But in general, I notice that Kiri doesn't really throw herself into these roles...kinda Sutherland-esque..where it's about technique not emotion. Anyway,.the voice is immaculate but not really moved
