I absolutely agree... I love how the "you do not need me" creates a connection between these two songs...

Damien is a genius. Even the way he plays the neck of the guitar is symbolism for the topic of this song.

I don't know why, but when he looks down, and moves his mouth away from the mic as he screams 'YEEAAAAH' on the first drop, just can tell he feels SO much emotion.

That's Joel Shearer... guitarist and singer-songwriter of Pedestrian... he toured with Damien in 2003-2004 and in 2006-2007, and he's still recording with him now

I want comment again! I think Damien Rice had got a difficult teenage! Because If He wrote this song in this period, It would significate only this. Now I think he feel a little better! I hope this! Now this is come back one of my favourite song! Mine is Rootless Tree or Grey Room!

@MrDevil0910 @ilcorvojo2 We'll in one of the live versions damien talked about the story behind the song. And he said it was about "Spending a little bit to much time in your room as a teenager" So i think that really clears up what it's about :p

@remydhband yo do not need me (if i'm not wrong...) that is the last verse of volcano probably the song he sang before starting this me my yoke nad i version. he recorded on a loop and then used it to introduce the song... i repeat the question anyone knows if it is possible to find this dvd? the qualityt is excellent!!
@ilcorvojo314 жыл бұрын
@MrDevil0910 Wait, you got it wrong, let me explain better... First off, Joel Shearer is the guitar player in the band, someone posted a comment asking who he was in this video so I replied to that. Joel has nothing to do with the song. Damien is not omosexual. This song is about discovering masturbation, and feeling guilty (because Damien was raisedas a Catholic boy)... Anyway, what do you mean with "this song was one of my favourite"? You no longer like it because of its real meaning?
@ddre7513 жыл бұрын
@MrDevil0910 In this version it seems he is saying "bishop" not "fishing". In another version he says that God gave me a rod...for fishing. Like biblical reference.
@seansmythe216 жыл бұрын
Damien said it was about masturbation when I went to see him Nottingham Arena, anyone else there. Every song was out of this world.

@MrDevil0910 of course it's all based upon interpretations, none of us can be sure... but do you agree the song is about masturbation? if so, then i'd say the meaning of the rod thing is pretty obvious..

yea, i was just gonna point that out...it builds more intensity for yoke plus, i have to say that it makes all the sense in the world too...not sure if anyone will agree to it, but since yoke is about masturbation (most of his songs more or less lurks toward this subject), it's easy to see how he has to resort to that kinda stuff because "she does not need him"...

@ilcorvojo2 What I wanted to say is the fact that is not very very very beatiful song about masturbation or similar. Unfortunately in the 50% of the case in Italy when we listen a English song we don't find a lyrics or, better, a translate but we like the same. Is for all this that I say this was one of my favourite song! Do you understand ? however I ignored the fact that DR was of cattolich dottrin! Thanks! And what do you say me about "Woman like a man" ?
@MrDevil091013 жыл бұрын
@ilcorvojo2 However it can be! Fall to do Falliment in his life! Do you agree ???
@ilcorvojo213 жыл бұрын
@MrDevil0910 it's not "fail", it's "fall"
@MrDevil091013 жыл бұрын
@ilcorvojo2 mm ... Are you sure ? Remember that Rice is very ambiguos in his songs! He is Catholic and maybe he want say Rod for say "reason for his life" and fishing for say "fishing a way for go out"! Maybe it's my interpration and is wrong! I'm not English but I translate this! =)

@ilcorvojo3 I ask this last question because I think this. Damien Rice does not like modern women "whores"! Because he knows that they expect a number of things that just makes pitchs! Just act like men unscrupulous and heartless! Do you understand? however, is clearly another song! (I'm doing to help the translator google! I hope you understand!)

Its deffo about mastrubation. Think I've heard him say its about the guilt of mastrubation actually..
@MrDevil091013 жыл бұрын
@tc2kgt but come on! it is logical that it's masturbation! Damien was honest! But I think he must have had a childhood and adolescence unhappy! Poor Damien! Oh well it is redeemed with the music! I love his jacket!
