RCA wouldn't let him. It wasn't up to the artist back then, the label picked the songs, and they hated this. Drinkin songs was all they wanted Gary to do. I was there, RCA turned down many songs I wrote because they said "too rock", "too blues"!! Total damn idiots. Sonny T

Another from a vast collection I have,backstage ,jams,etc.Gary recorded many songs of mine that were never released.RCA said "too rock"!Damn idiots.This was the third song I ever wrote.You can get Garys version on my Sonny Tackett Band page on Facebook.Also the new version thats soon to be released on my next cd,but its not the final vocals,as I had to sing in a neckbrace.Much love all,Sonny T

My name is Sonny Tackett, a good friend of Gary's. He recorded many of my songs, and this is one of them.You can find it on my upcoming cd.I own the copyright to this song,It's in my catalog at BMI,so I'm wondering why it says here that you have a liscense for it,as I never signed one.This was a demo done in Florida, and RCA told Gary it was too rock for him.I'm ok with you posting this because I do everything I can to promote Gary and keep his memory alive,but by signing KZbin's intellectual property rights agreement you actually committed a crime,as I own the rights to this song.That's a $25,000 fine and five years in prison for each offense.So next time,ask permission, or the next person, especially a co,might not be as agreeable as I am.It says here You have a standard lisceince for this,but you don't. You might want to change that,as KZbin is pretty strict if they find out you are not the intellectual property rights owner.I am.Sonny Tackett

I wrote this song in the 70s, and Gary always wanted to do it.. He did this demo with his friends Tommy Swartz on bass, Jimmy Smith on guitar, and Gary on vocals and piano.. RCA couldn't hear what Gary could really do, so they didn't let him record ut. Too bad, it would have crossed over for sure. Thus happened to at least six songs I wrote, RCA calling them "too rock", they wanted Gary stuck in that drinking song niche.Its not available anywhere, I have the full 10 minute version and I'm cleaning it up to put on my site, youtube/moondancerrecords, where you can find many more live and demo songs by Gary ., plus the original of this one .
