Even though he might die in body one day (not that I have no faith in his carnal immortality...) his spiritual presence is eternal. When we get bored of St George England will have a St Damon. Each 23rd of March will be celebrated as St Damon's day with parades and wacky traditions like wearing your clothes inside out. And of course, by this time, the national anthem will be For Tomorrow (and it is a truth universally acknowledged that this is the most eclectic Blur song). And so though the man may die, the legend will live on...

His voice has changed a lot, now he simply sings different things in a different way. He doesn't pretend to sing the same stuff in the same way through 20 years and more. His nasal, almost high-pitched voice has turned into a more warm and narrative voice, his voice is growing with the man and the artist and turning into a more mature sound. Oh, well, that's my thought :)

His voice then was beautiful on songs like tender and this is a low. His voice fit the songs like parklife and girls and boys. Universals one that I feel didn’t change much but that was a lower song already. I was never able to describe his voice when he was younger. It was just different to what I’ve heard before.

My brain still cannot compute that Damon Albarn from Blur and Damon Albarn from Gorillaz are the same person :-D I think the evolution of his voice will be the reason, I know Blur since I was a child but I got to know most of the Gorillaz discography in adulthood when his voice already changed considerably.

I sing and an the same age as Damon. My voice has changed quite considerably over the years. Listening to him, his hasn't changed that much, especially considering he's a smoker which usually gives the voice a velvet thicker tone after a while. I remember David Bowie recommending Lulu take up smoking to give a thickness to her voice. It really does change it. Damon's voice is still on top form. To be honest, the man could mime and I'd still love him! Haha!

@@rrobinmay when Damon was talking about heroin not that long ago, maybe a year ago he said he didn't have an addictive personality and could smoke a few cigarettes in a day and not smoke for a week after..... just cos he didn't want to. I think he still probably smokes now and then especially the odd joint but he's still a great singer. Compared to how different Liam Gallagher's voice has changed. Obviously different styles of singing and heavier drinking and drugs with Oasis. Liam was losing his voice around Heathen Chemistry like so much he was just screaming into the mic, couldn't hold a note or hit the high notes. And by high notes I mean the simple chord progression on Some Might Say. So they had to stop playing it live. It was kind of sad but unbearable to listen to live at the same time. Both still legends in my book. And Graham Coxon is a legend too and seriously underrated. He's an amazing guitar player!! You're So Great is one of my favourites despite him not really being a singer. It's more the frailty and sincerity of his voice in that song that makes it so amazing! Saying all that I'm not sure what the point of this video was. All our voices change as we get older.

Same thing happened with Brett Anderson. Possibly smoking and drugs had an effect in both cases but he also went through a voice change with similar results. Maybe not quite so comfortable in the upper ranges outside of the studio but lower down, a warmth and texture that wasn't there before. I think that can be said for both of them. They are able to in inject gravitas and sincerity into their old songs and almost give them new meaning.

Everyone here is discussing how much his voice changed and I’m thinking here that compared to others singers of his age it didn’t change at all. Maybe I’m deaf, or he knows how to use his voice but on both versions it sounds great. Only maybe a bit softer, but still he can sing loudly if he wants to and also he can now reach lower notes. But for my ear if I’m not concentrating to hear differences it sounds the same.

OK so based solely on these performances my scoring would be: Young Damon 6 - 3 Old Damon I'm sorry, but for me there's really no comparison. While his voice has gotten deeper and warmer over time, with often beautiful and effective results, I don't think it serves the earlier songs very well. Maybe it tended to sound more whiny in the past, but generally he was in tune oftentimes than not, and his vocals were more fleshed out, dynamic and melodic. In several occasions in these recent years footages, you can hear him being a little out of breath and struggling to hit notes that are not even that high. That being said, his current voice totally has its charms and emotional maturity, although I wish he would've taken better care of it.
