I feel they could of had a good relationship from the beginning of the show if Stefan apologized to Damon in 1912 for going after Katherine while Damon made a move for her first as well as for allowing Damon to think that he broke there promise about Katherine's vampirism being secret from there Father and forcing Damon to turn against his will and then risking them getting killed by his sloppy massacres and makes it up to Damon by getting him the best alcohol to offer and in return Damon teaches Stefan how to feed on people without killing them and only feeding when hungry and nothing else not going overboard

I think u need to watch the show again..it was damon who made a move on Katherine while Stefan and Katherine were together also Stefan is the one the who spent most of time with Katherine when damon was on his soldier duty..and Damon is at fault he knew how dangerous vampires are still he went blind behind Katherine and hid her reality from everyone and because of that Stefan who was just 17 got raped by her..and about turning him forcefully so didn't damon do the exact thing with Elena forcefully fed his blood to her because he can't see her dying..so damon can turn the girl who wasn't even his girlfriend at that time and it's Romantic for people but Stefan can't turn his brother with whom he shared 17 yrs and can't see him dying..Damon always blamed his actions on others and went too far with his obbession with Katherine and his baseless revenge from Stefan
