Wolf Alice Interview |
I sat down with Wolf Alice - comprised of frontwoman Ellie Rowsell, guitarist Joff Oddie, bassist Theo Ellis, and drummer Joel Amey - during their North American tour stop at The Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan to get the scoop on their backstory, as they prepare to release their debut album "My Love is Cool" on June 22.
Named after the Angela Carter short story, it turns out the UK band's members have even deeper of an appreciation for literature than one may initially expect. After Joff details a notable celebrity encounter of his at Reading Festival, Ellie recalls dressing up as Shakespeare once upon a time. So I guess it shouldn't come as much of a surprise when she defends Theo's former involvement with a poetry club. "That's not lame," she insists, sensing a slight embarrassment on his part.
We also discuss the irony of Ellie (the band's only female) previously attending an all-girls school, as well as the gang getting kicked off stage at the Barn on the Farm festival despite Joff's past as a farmer, and a whole bunch more. "This is how you do interviews," asserts Joel, before offering a round of applause for the land of the free and home of the brave. "Alright, America!" Joff cheers.
