Damon Carmona: MUPUS (A Ragtime Two-Step)

This wonderful little rag was composed in 2019 by American composer Carmona. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and staff pianist for the theater department since 1995. The composer sent this to me and I was instantly hooked! I think this is a very succesful piece. Well it's definitely very fun to play!

My favorite Joplin rag, Magnetic Rag, has sections in G minor and Bb minor, but the main theme is in Bb major.

I love ragtime! The sound of this is so authentic, like it came right out of St. Louis in the turn of the 20th century. Cheers to the composer! And thanks for playing it, Gamma. You should play more ragtime!

That is indeed a very good composition, even though I am not particularly a ragtime fan. The minor key gives it a South-American flavor. I find this much more interesting than any of the ubiquitous Joplin rags.

thanks for your feedback. Many people still like when I play Slonov and I have to go what most people want to hear, but it's true, it's good to diversify! But in the end I will still play what I like. And I simply love these russian pieces very much.
