Fun fact about the first crystal skull. It was a sham that an archeologist set up in South America for his daughter to find on her birthday. The reason it’s not feasible for it to have been made is because it was just made in a London shop to the archaeologist’s request. People thought they were real because they knew the Aztecs were amazing sculptors and had a fascination with skull symbols. But a museum worker proved them to be fake in the 90’s since they were made of the wrong kind of quartz and the carving wasn’t similar to the ways the Aztec carved skulls in other artifacts. In short, Dan is really not into research and just wanted a cool looking bottle

Fun Fact: Alcohol is the antidote to antifreeze, they both latch onto the same receptors but ethanol has priority.
@Mrgreenman4210 ай бұрын
Interesting, I'm familiar with opioids and the Mu-receptor...so are you saying that much like Narcan, the anti-freeze portion will just be pushed out by the ethanol and excreted? Hmmm, chemistry and the human body are indeed almost miraculously complex...and to think, if we hadn't invented alcohol, we could have faced population shortages due to tainted water back in ye olden days...
@steel823110 ай бұрын
@Mrgreenman42 glycol, methanol, and ethanol are all alcohols, I couldn't tell you why ethanol has priority with the liver but it does (as far as I know it mostly just delays the other 2, it doesn't actually stop them from doing any damage and you should still take a poisoned person to the hospital).
@ShiroKage0093 ай бұрын
@@Mrgreenman42Methanol (the antifreeze in the antifreeze) toxicity comes from the body's attempt at metabolizing it. The enzyme responsible for neutralizing ethanol is the one that attempts this, but the problem is that when it works on methanol it makes formaldehyde (embalming compound). Luckily, alcohol dehydrogenase being originally meant to work against ethanol has much higher affinity to ethanol. So if you take in a bunch of ethanol, alcohol dehydrogenase will metabolise it first and leave the methanol for later. This gives the kidnies time to filter it out without making formaldehyde and embalming you from the inside-out.

If it tastes good then Dan got a good product, the problem with these pure products with no bad chemicals and sugars from what I've heard is that they taste bad and how healthy they are isn't worth the taste.

It's a sponsored product. A generic vodka on a pseudo-fancy glass bottle with its marketing doing all the heavy lifting. I tried it back in 2005 on a cruise ship traveling the Caribbean. It tastes as generic as you would expect for cheap vodka. You could literally grab a few of the cheapest vodka you can find and try them blind and you would not be able to tell them apart from this one. You pay a premium for basically the cool bottle. (If you are into the whole cristal skull theme.)

The only reason to do a filtration step is if you do it before the distillation to prevent solids from clogging the distillery. Filtration can only remove non-dissolved solids. Distilling will also remove the same things, but also remove dissolved solids that won't evaporate, or other liquids mixed into the one you're trying to get, assuming that the two evaporate at different temperatures, which can also depend on the specific mixture proportion.
@steel8231 Жыл бұрын
Distilation removes liquid impurities, like remnants from the fermentation process. There's the "Head" "Heart" and "Tail" of distilled spirits, the head is what tastes like drain cleaner, the tail tastes like rot, the heart is what people prefer.

"Oh but how could they possibly have moved the stones for Stonehenge? How!?" Maybe Mconel had a dream of the stone pattern, got his friends, got some rope and hauled the stones to where they wanted them to be. I get that the rocks are heavy, obviously, but I bet 3-4 strapping young men who had to do physical labor for a living could haul a rock. They probably had a wagon to help move it.
