2 years later and I'm coming across this video... I saw Dan numerous times through the years from the 70's to a couple of months before he passed. I have been a fingerstyle guitar player a long time and part of that is due to this guys pickin style. One of the last times I saw him play he couldn't sing like he did in the past, so he was picking his ass off all night. There were 7 guitars surrounding him and a grand piano. Maybe 1000 people in a small theater. I was mesmerized by his playing and of course his writing all these great tunes. Thanks for posting...

There are many people that did not know that Fogelberg could play lead guitar solos with soul, intensity, and precision. I have never seen him with his band, but I was very fortunate to watch him play with all three when he showed up unannounced and played a set with a good local band called New Moon in Nederland, CO. They played some songs of his and New Moon nearly smoked his touring band. We were sitting (then standing of course) about 20 feet from the stage. What a gift.

Exactly right. I never realized how much lead guitar was his on the albums, until the first time I saw him play live. I was blown away, he was incredible. Watching him play Power Of Gold live was a truly stunning experience. His band was always tight, loud, and so clean and clear. Dan was an artist, a real professional.

Thank you for this! Amazing look into this period of DF, what I would give to have the original board sound! And what a great testament to DF's Guitar playing.. This show Rocks and how for the life of me is this man not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? It's a total injustice, maybe "One day they'll all understand"!

I guess everyone's life is just a string of coincidences. I loved Dan Fogelberg and his songs were always on the radio when I lived in San Antonio. I had a favorite place there downtown near the Alamo. Near the Magestic and the old hotels. One night as I sat in an incredible old bar celebrating what seemed to be one of the most triumphant nights of my life, after the completion of a hard and long project and the beginning of the end of my life there. I was not alone but something was aching inside about things I didn't understand. I was missing my grandfather and already missing this whole place, going back to a home I never planned to live in because it just didn't seem real somehow. A place where nothing was old or natural, and I had seen the water halfway up the homes there. Many years prior, actually right after my move from Louisiana to Texas, there were mighty storms and floods. And bent tres in the woods by a river. And my grandfather and parents said it was very risky, if not just bad judgement to settle on river bottom and build on land where palmetto flourished. And so we did exactly that. I remember before the dam went up. I remember seeing signs about how high the water level would be when there was no lake there yet. And it's probably all good, and I don't blame or judge a single entity involved. Something about living below that much water gave me a dark feeling and I let go dreams of Arkansas I looked up at the ceiling of that hotel bar that wasn't thrown up overnight in anybody's recent memory. It was old and from another era that seemed familiar and sad. And I never will forget as I stared up at the beauty of it and drinking champagne, Run for the Roses was playing on the radio or jukebox or something, and Dan was singing it to me. It's burned into my memory like yesterday. The records and CDs are long gone but that memory will always be there. Like everything else that happened to me in that area that took me four years to learn to navigate because the roads are so random and screwy with the entire world trying to get in to see a very tiny church and the most awesome zoo and gardens. And they all crowd onto a beautiful little river of lights and ride boats and try to forget or remember something. And they say to remember it but the truth is lost. Funny how libraries catch fire. Really. I still don't understand but I do know it could not have been an accident that this music was there with me all the time.

Wow, Just found this gem. I saw this tour (the Innocent Age tour, January 25th 1982, McNichols Arena, Denver CO). Amazing tour. and here it is...thank you for posting this. bringing back so many good memories. I remember on the song The Reach, there were at least 2 twelve string guitars and the sound was incredible. Kenny Passarella on bass is always a huge plus and Russ Kunkel on drums. WOW!!

I saw him many many times, and I listened as his voice aged and deteriorated as the time went on. Which was so sad, because he had such a beautiful voice for so long until the surgery. But I was fortunate to have been able to see him do both Netherlands and same old Lang syne along with a bunch of other piano numbers live. He was an incredible and gifted writer and singer and arranger.

I was fortunate enough to see Dan at Nassau Coliseum, Radio City Music Hall, Jones Beach Theatre and several times at Westbury Music Fair, some shows solo acoustic and others with a full band. Always great shows. Not many artists can pull off a solo acoustic show in a large venue, but Dan could.

The 1972-82 range of his work was by far my favorite. We were both from Illinois (he from Peoria me from Chicago) and he went to Northern IL. University, I Southern IL University. We were both singer songwriters during that time frame. I did some radio and tv work in the early 70's, but later in the 70's there was a turning point and I went another road not continuing to play professionally heading out West to some mountains. In the end not sorry I did. Settled for having recording studios and getting my work copyrighted.
