For people claiming he's been fed opponents who aren't wrestlers.... It's like they're purposely ignoring 3 of his last 4 fights. Weidman is no longer in the division. Romero and Jacare has been losing so after Gastelum he had to unify the belt or fight someone who was on a winning streak if Whittaker didn't make the fight. Sounds like people are upset that he hasn't lost. Because these are the same people predicting he'll lose his next fight regardless of his opponent

Hear me out here... Whittaker’s approach wasn’t totally incorrect. Sure, he could’ve attempted some takedowns, but at what cost? That would’ve only put him at risk to get elbowed in the clinch or intercepted with a knee (i.e. Bumson lol). I think it was just Izzy’s night in every sense of the idea. I think keeping it on the feet was the best opportunity Rob had to win, but it just wasn’t enough. Izzy just looked ready for any and everything Rob could’ve thrown his way. I don’t see a change in game plan affecting the result.

If you've watchd any of his podcast with his coach you got a sense he's underestimated Izzy based on the Gastelum fight.

Derrick Brunson is a better wrestler than Whitaker and he had trouble with the "take down" plan. Israel always says that he uses footwork and distance to confuse people that try to take him down. That's why so many people had trouble taking Anderson Silver down in his prime. It's hard to reach him without shooting from distance and putting themselves in danger of getting kneed in the face.

Whittaker's problem is he's a head hunter. When Israel leans back over his hips like that, Whittaker should be digging hooks to the body. When Israel stops leaning back is when Whittaker should return to head hunting. Whittaker had the same problem in the second Romero fight. Romero was keeping a super high guard, protecting his head but leaving his body largely unprotected. Not seeing the opening, Whittaker opted to head hunt Romero until his broke his hand on Romero's forearm. Frustrating to watch.

People on here are hilarious. Rob is a great fighter. He was fighting an amazing striker. It only takes one with these small gloves. In the lead up to this even Dan Hardy picked Rob to win. I think the one thing that really through Rob off was the dancing. I think it kind of made him Angry and he fought angry. He is young and will learn from this. They will fight again down the track. The Aussie fans will sell that rematch. It was always going to be hard fight for Rob. The reach advantage, with someone so skilled at using it.
@drummingtildeath4 жыл бұрын
Whitakker did say the dance made him want to punch him in the face even more. And Adesanys spoke about the very different mindsets he thought they went in with. I love how psychology makes such a difference. Masvidal's casual stance before sprinting and leaping at Askren was a good use of that psychology, and got a result.

His plan was to create chaos to try to catch Izzy 'cause he knew he couldn't play the long range game against someone who is a bit faster, elusive and has a 6 inch reach on him. When Izzy gets in that zone where he creates a situation where he can slowly put pressure on someone and pick them apart, he'll beat anyone at MW. Hard to beat a top level kickboxer with good TDD if they have control of the fight. Unfortunately Rob's chin isn't like Gastelums and it was a much dangerous gameplan for him.
