I remember when this happened, thinking, “does Hendo have that much power? Or was this a fluke?” Many fights and many KOs later we saw Dan had some of the heaviest hands in MMA history, and instinctively knew how to get his full body leverage into punches. Loved Renzo. My favorite Gracie. No shame in loosing to losing to a bomber like Henderson.

@@thevolsteadvolstead5942 Actually, you are part correct..It was reported that Kimura weighed as much as 50-+ lbs more than Helio, who weighed no more than 135-140 soaking wet, when in actuality there was NO weigh in, but those who were there, (Not Gracies) said Kimura outweighed Helio between 22-33 lbs. The Gracies are warriors and I highly doubt that this match wasn't greatly contested due to weight. Even so, maybe Kimura was better? Who cares!

I remember enjoying seeing this when it aired live. I remember Renzo Gracie winning the WCC tournament, but only because Mike Bitonio and Bart Vale fought each other first in the quarters. Renzo's first opponent was the small Ben Spikjers, then he fought the smaller Phil Benedict, because after Vale's war with Bitonio, he sustained injuries and couldn't continue to the semifinals. Anyway, Renzo's first fight should have been against Vale. The promotion F'd up by assuming Vale and Renzo would meet in the final of the grappler's division. Mike Bitonio (R.I.P.) should have won the tournament. Same with Royce at UFC4. It was no accident that he got 51 year old ron van cleef as his first opponent, while the tougher guys duked it out in the quarterfinals.
