Dan is the best not only because of his knowledge, but that he can explain it to where i can understand what he's teaching. He can also use the same footage, thats chopped up, to where he can explain a different teaching point/topic.

To his point about not hunting around other hunters. Some years ago A big local ranch that I grew up hunting on was leased out by a bunch of out of town guys. I was fussing about not having a good hunting spot while talking to the man who ran that ranch. He said he could get me on that lease and he did but it was immediately before season. I saw him one day and said something about not knowing where all the other guys were hunting. The ranch hand told me that they all went a couple of miles tward the back of the ranch but biggest buck he had seen sometimes crossed the road about a quarter of a mile from their deer camp. This area was semi open, rough, rocky canyons with occasional strips/draws of hardwoods. I knew the area pretty well so I put stands in about every hardwood strip in that area. Within a month I saw 3 big bucks in that area and killed 2 of them with my bow. Overlooked spots area a great place to try.

Exactly! I've learned a ton from, Dan, and I almost killed my PB this year in one of these exact spots he describes in this video😅 but I missed--only the second deer I've clean missed in my life😢 Now, I've laid eyes on him, and I want a chance at redemption. He's an absolute GIANT!

When do pressured bucks move more in late season. Morning or evening?

It depends. They often stay in those same security areas they move to when the firearm pressure hits but start to move around the edges more in mornings and evenings, just like in regular bow season. Depending on the available food, they will move mid-day as well. I realize that tells you absolutely nothing--any time in the morning, day, or evening😅

@ I been hunting for a minute, not my first rodeo. Ran out of places to hunt recently. So. Decided to try my luck on a 25k acre of public divided into 50 smaller parcels with private intermingled between all of it. Not to mention. It’s the closest public hunting within a metroplex that houses 8 million people. Less than 1 hr. I find fresh poop. Fresh tracks. Trails. Acorns. No rubs. No scrapes. Plenty of weekend hunter sign everywhere I go. Hunt the edges of oak flats next to thick cover. Hunt the corners of private where there’s a funnel. Hunt the meadows where there’s a pinch point. Hunt during the week. Have yet to see a deer on the hoof. It’s been humbling to say the least.

@ yeah I realize he said that . Just where I hunt in eastern Canada . It mostly all wooded . So you can’t really figure out that spot he always talks about that they hide. They can hide pretty well everywhere here . I realize he’s talking about his hunting area’s. It just doesn’t apply here that’s all . 👍

It’s not easy that’s for sure! The big woods areas are definitely challenging. Early season thickets seems to work for me this year. He said it’s not easy in the video btw

Ah makes sense. Here we have smaller chunks of woods and some big ones like 4000 acres we call “big” woods. Because the farms going up and houses being built. I think our woods have diminished a lot.

I have watched countless videos of his. Would someone please direct me to the videos where he actually hunts and kills al these big bucks on public land with a bow and no deer drives? Really, I'd like to watch them. I saw one he killed, but it was already gut shot by someone else!

IMO Dan’s strategies and ideology has been played out. The number of podcasts, videos and forums his strategies have been described on have gotten redundant. Dan is a phenomenal deer hunter, but I think the technology and pressure have changed a ton. He’s also getting older and I don’t believe he has the stamina that 20-40YO Dan used to have. Lotta folks wanna talk shit, this guys damn near 60 and still mobile hunting on public with a bow…. I don’t personally use his “Beast strategies” here in GA, but I’ll show a killer some respect.

I'm not in the same part of WI as Dan but if I want to drive 90 minutes I can cover a half million acres of public land. I only hunt the good spots across a lot of acres too. It's a good strategy.

Respectfully, when was the last time Dan killed a mature buck on public? I was scrolling through the hunting beast instagram and it’s a lot of old pics. I can say with confidence that Andy May killed a mature buck on public every year and he publicly displays it and proves it. My perception of Dan is that he was a good public hunter when public land wasn’t popular and now that is popular he can’t get it done and he pushes this “don’t hunt like everyone else” crap and it doesn’t seem to produce. I’m not gonna ignore hot sign that bucks lay down for you like he’s saying. His math ain’t mathing

He killed a big one last season. He is also only interested in killing a mature deer with a bow. He wants the bucks that are over 5 years old. Much less of them and much harder to hunt. Honestly, I would not be able to hunt like he can because he has a big network of help to get the deer out and I don't.

Yeah, he killed a really good one in Wisconsin. Then, killed a good one in Iowa. He's not as good as a shot as a lot of the guys. Most years, he gets an opportunity. Honestly him sharing his videos and hunting spots makes it harder on him.
