I remember defensive linemen talking about how frustrating it was to think they just sacked Marino because when they made contact he still had the ball, yet realizing that not only did he get rid of it, he scored a touchdown. If Miami could’ve got the RB they desperately needed to offset the pass attack, that could’ve been the missing piece to their quest for a Super Bowl. He will always be in the discussion for best QB, even Montana, Elway & the other great QB’s of that era talked about being amazed by not only the numbers he was putting up, but by how he did it.

You look at these throws... my goodness... deep bombs all over the place and they are right on the money. The coverage is good, but Dan layed the ball in perfectly so that the receivers didn't even have to break stride. Great elusiveness in the pocket, cannon of an arm , quick release... he's the best man.

Just heard this podcast and Aikman was talking about his early years in the league, when he first became part of that legendary QB Club of the late 80's - early '90s. Now, Aikman came into the league in 1989, so the members of such club were guys like Elway, Montana, Kelly, Young, Esiason, Simms, etc. What Aikman said about the group was, literally: "Dan Marino was essentially the Frank Sinatra of that club. He was Chairman of the Board. Everybody just kind of huddle around Dan Marino". Marino was an alpha among alphas, and the guys who have him in the highest regard are not his fans, but his peers. An ex qb once said that if you polled all the QBs from the 80's and 90's to ask them who was the best QB to ever play, the overwhelming majority would say it was Dan Marino. And that's the highest compliment anyone can receive.

A feat no one could reproduce until "08 ..... after all the rules that had been collectively changed in favor of the passing game. Over half the NFL's current Qb's and I'm being generous, would have been washed out after their rookie year with the onslaught of relentless defenses looking to deflate a rookie or young inexperienced QB. Most Qbs careers would be over before they started. Once major rules like hook sliding, throwing the ball away out of the pocket, stiffer targeting rules when hitting the qb, no targeting defenseless receivers, etc etc .... passing numbers went through the roof. Now you can win games being 1 dimensional with barely a sign of defense, Marino and Moon would be fun to watch in this era.

I remember watch Dan as a young boy learning the game of football and being mesmerized watching him throw the ball. Now as I look back I see just how much more incredible he truly was. He was slow as molasses, but he always knew how to shuffle just a step or two to the side or forward, reset his feet and throw a dart. Honestly watching his footwork is just as incredible as watching him throw. He was a trailblazer and will be my favorite Dolphin till my time on earth is done. They were special amongst special players. Marino was your favorite quarterbacks favorite quarterback. Barry Sanders was your favorite runningback's favorite runningback. When you spoke to other quarterbacks of his time they usually said when he entered the room he drew the crowd. No real quarterbacks walk up to Marino and speak down to him. The Dolphins got lazy with him at the helm. Football is a team sport. Salute Dan!!

He should not have made the roster, because he had nothing but he worked so hard and developed in to machine on the field. He is known to be the best bad weather QB, because he throws with accuracy and velocity. His greatest throwing ability is ONE and that is how beautifully he throws and makes it effortless. The killer mentality, love of the game, commitment to learning nuances, ability to win any kind of game.
