kind wish she was nicer to him at times :( like damn mans reazlied he isn't real, he was unaware of it and he had no control over his past actions. his family isn't real, and his mom wasn't real, he hates hospitals bc of what he went through as a kid and throughout the show they made him the loner and outcast with no friends but thankful they included his lil brother to help him. the combination of his character and someone like dan oh who is sick had potential, I felt their chemistry in ep1, you know the usual mean guy with issues but falls for someone he would have never guessed, I first thought the storyline was going to be kyung and dan oh being the main characters and he was going to fall for her (as he did) but she fell in love with someone else and mans got his heart broken again. I knew he was gonna be the second lead 😭and I thought about stop watching the show bc I knew haru and dan oh were gonna end up together but I'm glad I stuck around and see his character develop edit: damn i was just ranting i didn't know it got this much attention 🕴i still stand by this kinda, i just felt pity and sympathetic to him since i can relate him in a way

their story was so much more interesting to me than the main lead’s story. Loved how complex baek kyung was and how much his character developed at the end. The chemistry between dano and kyung was so strong and even though it was impossible for them to end up together, I’m glad they ended up being good friends who were grateful for each other. i love baek kyung. He was the most hurt character in the drama. It sucks that everyone only sees dan oh's pain. Baek kyung and his mother's past, his abusive father, feeling left out in his new family & his entire journey of realising he's only a character in some comic book was so sad to watch. He loved dan oh since they were kids but because he was in a comic book his life was controlled by the writer who wanted his character to be cold and mean. His real self had to hide his feelings for dan oh because he was scared to lose her the way he lost his real mother. Because baek kyung's father wanted to use her for business and money. Or else you can see how genuinely happy he was when they both had gone on that date. Also, imagine the only person in your life who genuinely loves you and cares about, has been there for you throughout, being stolen by a guy who suddenly came into her life out of nowhere (Haru) You can't blame baek kyung. Baek Kyung character really breaks my heart. He has a lot of mental issues developed ever since he was a kid in which he had no one to guide him on how to deal with those issues. Thus, after spending years in an abusive environment, he had to become the person he was in the first few episodes of the movie to protect himself from getting hurt. He was mean to other people, but he ended up hurting himself in the process, too. I think the actor really makes Baek Kyung comes to live with his acting. Throughout the movie, he didn't want to take advantage of Dan Oh because he knows that's what his father wanted him to do. Yes, it was his rebellious actions against his father, but he was protecting Dan Oh and himself. He saw his mother die at the hospital, it traumatized him, and it makes sense that he wouldn't want to go through it again. He pushed Dan Oh away with his rude and mean actions so that she would back down and not be taken advantage of by him and ended up being hurt more. I think after 10 long years, he believed that they would never be separated. He loved her but resented her at the same time. He was mean to her, but he was hurt, too. No one ever teach him how to care for and love someone, so he didn't know how to treat Dan Oh and face his emotions. He was used to the love and comfort that Dan Oh gave him, and thought that her love for him wouldn't change until Haru came, and reality kicked in. It is true that he should not reflect his anger on someone else, but I think no one ever understood him even the "Dan Oh," who loved him for 10 years. How sad is that! I don't blame Dan Oh for choosing Haru because Haru was her only hope in her desperate life, and of course, she is going to fall for Haru. Baek Kyung and Dan Oh could have been with each other if she had known he was being abused at home, and been there for him. Maybe if that's the case, he would not have to use his rudeness to protect himself. I wish he could have a better ending because he deserves to be happy after what he had been through.

Not every abused victim will act the way BaekKyung does. Why? Because they understand the pain of abuse therefore does not wish to inflict pain on other people. BaekKyung had a choice after realizing the reality of the fiction that was his whole life, but he still chose to be cruel to Dan Oh and Haru. While Dan Oh chose to fight for a new reality, he desperately tried to keep things the way it was; a la trying to murder Dan Oh so that she would lose her memories and go back to the original character as she was written. The character Dan Oh that loved the character BaekKyung. That was a completely selfish decision and one made because BaekKyung was only thinking of himself. She has repeatedly told BaekKyung that she has moved on, but he still insisted that he be given a chance. That's selfish. He may have loved Dan Oh but that doesn't mean that she has to love him in return just because he's an abused victim. Also, he alone is responsible for his pain and his healing, not another person.

honestly if there's one thing i didn't like about the drama was the fact that shadow danoh treated the stage danoh like a whole other person. With his shadow and stage characters both being the same selish, rude, cold person (with tragic angst) but both slowly falling in love with Dan Oh... but the difference being that he starts to hate what he is written to be and his stage character and really starts to let her go, even though they were hypothetically supposed to end up together and had a whole backstory (which, in another Kdrama where Ha Ru wasn't there, and Baekyung wasn't so downright mean to Dan Oh, I could appreciate a standoffish sadboy and his dying childhood crush)... but ultimately think they handled the complexity of their relationship well by letting them both move past their set-ups and forgive and let go.

He was a jerk, a controller an abuser he treats her like a material even in the Shadows, Remember when haru switched the watch with the other girl when Dan oh was supposed to be saved by Kyung? Kyung said, "let's see who's the main lead here" before Dan oh passed out.. Like he knew she's going to pass out but he doesn't even seem worried about her he was just thinking about fighting over who can save her like she's not a material dude. I get that he was hurt knowing that she didn't love him but bro, Think back of everything that happened especially that time when he threw the rock to the sea then Dan oh almost drowned trying to get it back! Even if that was stage it still not an excuse for Dan oh to love him, He hurt her much more than you think and even in the shadows, He knew she loved haru but he still did selfish things in the end.. but the character development still happened though, He finally knew what real and what's not in the end, He finally knew how to let go.

honestly sometimes dan-oh doesn't realize that she doesn't even give baek kyung a chance cause she always looks at him as the character the author wrote not himself which is unfair because she always says that she's not the same as the character the writer wrote but she won't even give baek kyung a chance to be himself, and he honestly doesn't mean to do half the things he actually does because he doesn't find himself as quickly as danoh and haru that's why it's even sadder and she doesn't even realize that he genuinely loves her, he's just a classic tsundere and again he finds himself when things can't be fixed which is the worst part. i honestly prefer baek kyung with danoh idk why but i just have this feeling that's he's a really nice guy it's just the character that the writer setup which just doesn't do him any good justice so 😭😭

Baek kyung loved eun dan oh but he didnt want to be hurt when she dies! just like with his mom baek kyung just gave up on her getting better because he believed his mom wouldnt die! So baek kyung wasnt the bad guy he was just Broken. And when baek kyung saw her with haru he knew he lost but still thought that he could get her back but he was way to late, baek kyung wanted haru to leave so he tried to make him go away and when he disappeared he knew he was to late for her to like him again like in the book.

I finally understood that it wasn’t baeks fault for acting like that, the author literally made him out to be an asshole. When he became self aware he did become nicer to dan oh, even though he was aggressive at times he couldn’t help it since he had an abusive dad and didn’t know what it felt like to be loved and believed being aggressive can solve everything. I used to hate him, but after watching more of the show I grew to understand him and feel bad for him

For me, i dont ship them bc the role in the drama. I ship them because their chemistry, it's really outstanding, they match together very well. And i head that Wook was casting for Haru, so that's the second point make me feel regret for them. Hope there's two ppl in another drama.
