If he wants to play, fine, nobody should stop him. He knows the consequences of playing football. My issue with this whole thing is why is nobody on the dolphins organization thinking about protecting the team? So he plays, what happens when he gets knocked out again? How does that look for the dolphins? How does that look for the NFL? You keep tua, and what, every time he gets knocked down, he's out for 5-6 games and you go 1-4 or 1-5? Is that the cost of having tua, something you have to put up with because hes a nice guy? Whyd you pay him the biggest dolphins QB contract? Why would you keep him? Make it make sense
@mikeboone81402 ай бұрын
I agree. If I was the coach, I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something worse happens. I'm a boxing fan, and sometimes the trainer has to save a fighter from themselves, because of their heart and will to win, that no doubt Tua has. But, man I really worry about him. But, at the end of the day he's a grown man, and if he knows the risks involved and wants to continue anyway, then as long as a team will sign him, then who am I to say anything? But, I would never want him on my team, and if I were a coach I wouldn't want to coach him.

In so many words, he’s saying what I’ve always said: That it’s a dangerous game, and like any dangerous profession they make a lot of money to do it, and that it’s naive to think you can legislate the danger out of it and still have it be NFL football!! There are players that are taking blows to the head on every play, that should be in a concussion protocol, but it goes unnoticed. Big O and D linemen, rb’s, receivers, QB’s. Who is it helping when only the most obvious head blows are being protocoled??

Actually, one of the really scary things about football-related brain damage is that there is a significant chance that lots of small jarring impacts are the cause of injury. It is also worthy of note that there seems to be a connection between brain trauma and conditions that we don't necessarily think of as related, such as Parkinson's and ALS. Playing without a helmet will slow the players down which naturally you will protect your head when tackling. I played street football growing up without ever having a concussion or head injury. OnceI put a helmet on is when I sustained 4 diagnosed concussions and at least 5 more that were undiagnosed. Just my honest opinion.

Tua needs to learn how to fall. This is a skill which needs 1,000 repetitions until it is second nature. But Tua stiffens up like a dear in headlights.
@george4747472 ай бұрын
If this ends in a tragedy, the personal autonomy to decide to risk playing football will be taken away. This isn't only about Tua, it's about the future of the sport... By not taking sensible action now (i.e. paying up his contract for their/Miami's negligence in a deal for him to retire), the NFL opens itself up to the Helen Lovejoys of the world effectively banning the sport as we know it. Sadly, the non-football public doesn't care about the value of the sport that Tua's comments expressed. Like Dan implied, for Tua it's a macho warrior pride thing (as well as financial, no doubt), but if his decision backfires, he'll be the last player afforded the freedom to take it. Tua's thinking about Tua, not about everyone else who ever wants to play or watch the sport. I'm sure he'd say it would be their free choice too, but the NFL needs to realise that isn't true.

Analytics would prove he’s wrong, the chances of me breaking my ankle every morning, is not likely probable, as me getting hit in the head being a Quarterback in the NFL, Tua, and I’m almost three times older then you, I’ve played sports all my life and had physical jobs, walking up too ten miles a day on one job and retired from a City Water Department, and three injuries in all that time, two severe ankle sprains playing Basketball and torn meniscus,at 52 years old, that’s it

At this point, it’s NASCAR football when it comes to Tua - everyone is just waiting for the wreckage. I, for one, won’t have any sympathy for him when it inevitably happens. Accidents happen, but not many people get so many warnings and more chances. Just because you love a sport doesn’t overcome the danger. Go for it macho man. Dan,if in fact you would continue to play, then you’re an idiot too. Money? He should have more in the bank than 99.999% of people on the planet.
