He's got a very impressive video of him playing double bass at 210 bpm for 10 minutes straight. I can't imagine the practice and dedication that went into pulling it off.
@alexwales89143 жыл бұрын
@@deliciousmentalfudge Fitness is an underrated aspect of black metal drumming. I think even a lot of decent athletes couldn't keep up moving each leg nearly twice a second for 10 minutes, in time and whilst doing other things with their hands.

The best part about some metal bands is the way they express their love and respect for some other bands, like Dan is wearing Meshuggah Tee shirt despite the fact that NeObs are themselves extremely talented and successful too. I love Ne Obs.

Wow sounds super tight in this video. I fucking love this band, with passion. I've never gotten so hard into a band, and right about one year after finding Beyond Creation which was my favorite band at the time, I found Ne Obliviscaris. You displaced BC. Still a fucking amazingly great band, but your music hits me hard...

Dan, it's amazing to see the progression you are going through. Especially recently, you and NO are going to be a big hit all over. It's so refreshing and inspiring to see a drummer and his band creating/playing death metal that is so musical, artistic, smooth and, well I could go on and on. Anyway, cheers mate! Excellent playing! You've helped me decide on what ride cymbals to go with too. I have been using Paiste Dry Dark Rides, which are similar to the K. Custom to your left. I personally want them to have more presence, so I'll probably be going with a couple of RUDE Power Rides. The last session I did with the Dry Dark was ok, but I just need a little more. I'm some of your studio recordings, I was left wishing I could hear more of that double ride work. Love your parts, and approach!

A question to the musically educated: Is what Dan's doing on the snare drum, what they call 'ghost' notes? (the light, almost unheard hits between the main snare hits, that is). Thanks! :)
@zafoulis9 жыл бұрын
+draganov i suppose you are talking about the beginning beat, if so, yes
@draganov8 жыл бұрын
zafoulis Yes, that is what I was asking for, thank you so much for answering :) Now I finally know what they mean by the term 'ghost notes', and it has bugged me for a long time :)
@zafoulis8 жыл бұрын
+draganov Just for the sake of being precise ( i'm a drummer myself :P), you were asking about the extra hits on snare, besides the backbeat, at 2:28
@draganov8 жыл бұрын
zafoulis Yep, exactly these hits :) You can see his stick moving, but the sound of the snare is almost not audible :) I am fascinated by drummers, I know nothing about music or drumming (well, I learned a few words :P), but I like watching them in their craft. Especially when they play super-complex stuff and make it look super fluid and easy. Funny, when I was a teen, I liked guitarists more. Ah well, priorities shift I guess :)
@zafoulis8 жыл бұрын
+draganov each instrument or musician has its own magic and level of difficulty of course and it's nice that even you don't know anything about playing an instrument you still appreciate the skill it needs

I liked you live a lot, and I like this album... but man... all of your songs sound the exact same, especially with that violin. and oh wonder, you are wearing a shirt of THE band with 100% same-sounding songs. fix that or you'll never get big. and that would be a shame with your skills. there are so many examples of bands who couldn't evolve. #1 would be to trade that violin for a keyboard. take between the buried and me as an example. they make every new album be something different, yet grand
@KainLustt7 жыл бұрын
LMTR14 It's your opinion and I think is a really polite one. But I'd trade any keyboard for a violin. Really.
