Great sport indeed. He would have clobbered Gracie had he only hammered him a bit. He did that in later fights. Alas the lessons learned during the transition from wrestler to MMA fighter.

Dan Severn had the success that he had because he was just a big guy and there weren't any weight classes. I used to hate watching his fights they were so boring he would lay his fat ass on them and try to suffocate them while he did his ground-and-pound. I read an article where Dan Severn said that he felt bad for Royce Gracie etc , that he submitted but suggested that he could have won. You got beat Dan, Let It Go, you're old now, Let It Go it's over, you lost. The end. People talk trash about the Gracie family, about Royce Gracie lol. No one person or no family has ever influenced anything as much as the Gracie's have influenced MMA in USA. I personally train in BJJ, there wouldn't even be a Jiu-Jitsu gym in my area if it weren't for the Gracie family. Dan Severn you ain't s*** you're just a big GIANT sweaty Wrestling grease ball.

The excuse. The sad thing is that if you are a proper submission fighter, you can end your opponent without harming them, just like Demian Maia does. The fact of the matter is, Dan did not have the tools to submit Royce. He could take him down and he could pin him. However, he lacked the sub skills of Royce. Today, with the popularity of submission arts, I see Dan beating Royce.

Today? Today it would be an impossible match. Royce is a way smaller. Dan would fight DC, Miocic etc... You cant compare Dan with Royce... Royce is a long way better.

That is a bit extreme…known cheater, no. Accidents happen, like groin kicks, but that was once. Show me a record of cheating in fights with Royce. You cannot. I am not his biggest fan, as Royce has become a Mark for himself. Royce drank the koolaide and now believes his own bullshit. I’d still take a Jiu Jitsu private from him, and so would you if you were smart. Still not a Royce fan… #carlsongraciejiujitsuforever
