That last painting was magnificent! I really enjoy the expansive range of subject matter Dana dives into. She is a master at finding composition solutions, and she has a real nack for creating often humorous surprises. I love her color sense and painterly touch. What she accomplished with this show is remarkable. So damn talented!!! Thanks for sharing Loren & Kate

Not always a fan of Dana's but she knocked one out of the park with this show. Fantastic! I'm now a believer! :) Now, James, will you be doing a report on the Picasso sculpture show? I can't afford the trip but I will not miss that show, maybe I can see Dana's show as well.

I absolutely love that couple singing and what surprises me is that for all the energy that they give out, and it's a lot, hardly anyone pays attention to them!

Great show. Dana remains me of an updated version of Max Beckmann. There is such a range of mark making in her work which is quite amazing. I am also impressed by her use of colour and how she blends or merges her colours. Thanks James and Kate. Chris

The top section of 'Fight in an Elevator 2' (5:40, with the white lights) is at first sight my favorite thing in the show.

The combination of conceptual and technical inventiveness is what makes great painting. This is exactly what ties it to poetry. If the language of the medium is not pushed forward into new territory along with the ideas of how to construct the painting it is just copying Wordsworth... or pick your painter from the past.

good lord just show the blasted painting instead of following details with your camera.

I much prefer that the painting details are shown as that is the benefit of seeing artwork in person, you can look at static photos of the paintings by just googling it, I think if you make art yourself you prefer to see the up close details of a painting to see how the artist put there work together and to try to solve the puzzle of their technique.

Thanks for the guide to this show. in reproduction I like Dana Schutz’s lurid painterly high key tones offset by greenish flesh tones. But was disappointed by her work (Fighting in the Lift) show at the Hepworth ( Wakefield, England) with talk w Dexter Dalwood. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXW5aqOef52Uf5I) The huge scale went against them, they feel a lightweight for the size, not monumental. Likewise the speedy dauby technique, more suited to gouche sketches. It’s comedy cubism, inflicted by flash-animation, flickering images. This provides a way in, but to what? Let’s not carried away with heaping praise just because we can get them. Where’s the substance?
