It's well known that former UFC champion Matt Hughes is lucky simply to be alive.
Hughes was involved in a tragic accident when a pick-up he was driving was hit by a train. Though he teetered on the edge of death, Hughes somehow won the biggest fight of his life, and has slowly been working on his recovery.
As part of its 25th Anniversary, the UFC is chronicling key moments in its history by airing 25 short documentaries on its Fight Pass digital subscription service.
One of the documentaries, "A Country Boy Can Survive" (aka the Matt Hughes story), debuted at the UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor press conference on Sept. 20, 2018, in New York, where UFC president Dana White and Hughes were on hand for the viewing with a select group of media.
White introduced the film, but after it was over, Hughes, who had just seen the documentary for the first time, joined White on stage for an emotional moment.

@E Rock , Royce Gracie's career was winding down when Matt Hughes fought him, I think it is well safe to say, that if the two of them fought in each other's Prime, Gracie would choke his ass out.Strength wouldn't matter. Remember in the early 90s, when he fought Ken Shamrock and Kimo, and Dan Severn ? They were all twice his size. And he choked them all out. But it would definitely be a great fight, each of them in their Prime.

Nut shot unseen by the ref. Then gets his ass beat down. Shakes it off. Picks Trigg up and runs him across the ring. Then power slams him on to the octagon floor. Rear choke ftw.

He is a true warrior. The spirit he has within his body is the type of spirit only a handful of us humans are born with. Truly phenomenal to see him still fighting to regain his true form when so many people would have quit when faced with the level of adversity this man has. No matter what kind of fight, Matt Hughes shows up and gives it his all.

lee lunk watch the documentary, they show the tracks, how you not see and hear a big ass train? He was fighting anymore, he even told his wife he didn’t have a purpose in life anymore. Guess you didn’t hear, now he has a restraining order against him from his wife and family. He chocked his wife in the shower, slap her dad, got into argument with his newphew and tried to set the tractor on fire. That brain injury unleashed the beast in him. Look it up

Sad to see but also great cause he can still communicate still walk still do things there just more difficult but all things considered he looks great for someone who got hit by a fucking train hope he regains more of his brain back but if not it don't matter he's alive can walk and talk and has a sense of humour that's a. Lot to work with if he can get to a stage where he can play with his kids help train at the gym and make love to his wife then he could still have a good life
@underthetrees4780
@underthetrees4780 5 жыл бұрын
The sense of humor is huge, there are good options for physical and speech therapy, but if someone's personality is damaged it's seems impossible to get back. Having a mind faster than your body is frustrating, but after an accident like his it's a good problem.
