If you’re looking at this video in 2022.. Take the comfortable high speed train Salerno(less than an hr) then take the Salerno to Amalfi ferry ride(30min). Much much faster and comfortable. Salerno train station to ferry 5-10min walk(flat/no hills).

Excellent info, especially about safety concerns, and the practical matters such as dealing with luggage! In 2019, my wife and I flew into Naples, and took a private car from the airport to Amalfi town. The driver headed straight down to Vietri and then west on the coast to Amalfi. One day we did a day trip to Pompeii (and the archaeology museum in Naples), again with a driver, and that route tells another way to get to Amalfi, over the mountains and around Ravello. That seemed straightforward and skipped most of the coast. When we left, we took the SITA bus east to Salerno, walked a couple blocks to the train station, and then the high-speed train all the way to Rome. Easy peasy!

Hi Dana Yes I stayed in Naples and went to Pompeii, then hired a private car to take us to Salerno where we spent the night. Then we hired another private car from Salerno to do the Amalfi Coast stopping at Amalfi and Positano along the way until we reached to Sorrento before sunset which I stayed a few days and from there did a day trip to Capri Islands. In the long run, it is better to hire a private car to get to places like Positano. The only time I used the train in Italy was from Rome to Florence then to Pisa and Siena

@@MuhammadKhan-ii9ir I did it through the hotel I was staying in Salerno but I didn't drive - I paid a driver about 30 Euros back in 2016 so it isn't cheap but it is better to get someone to drive you there because the roads are very narrow and windy, extremely busy and crazy drivers. Darling, have you ever tried driving around Amalfi Coast? It is so hard especially when it is crowded. Italian drivers are restless. So unless being a very professional driver, it is no piece of cake. There is crazy traffic, crazy turns and you have to wait at certain points of the road :D Using a manual car with these crazy turns, instant stoppings, and sometimes arguing with other drivers in the road is not easy in my view :D Most cars are manual in Europe, and most Americans drive automatically, so it should be also considered.

The information on the routes you’ve given is accurate and they are all possible, but apart from the car, they not very sensible options; even the car has its drawbacks as all of these Amalfi villages pre-date the car by about 2000 years so don’t expect an easy drive on American style roads and good luck trying to find a parking space. However, you have not covered the most sensible way by far to get to Positano (‘Posz-ee- *tah* -noh’, not ‘Posy-tarno’). You do not get off the train from Rome at Naples, you carry on to Salerno; from there, you take the ferry that calls at all the spectacular little resorts along the Amalfi coast (it’s worth taking the trip just for the views). This option is by far the best and quickest way to get to Positano or any other part of the Amalfi coast (of which Sorrento is not part). Poorly researched vlogs like this are not helpful particularly to those in the US who are more dependent on them, though the info you’ve given on the routes you have covered is helpful. In short: Rome-Salerno by train; Salerno-Amalfi by ferry (or bus/taxi/car).
