I wish they would have done origin missions for the factions & how they meet up with Varric. Would have been fun

I still can’t wrap my head around why they would stop doing those. DA 2 had a little bit of it but not really. One of my favorite aspects of Origins is the playable background story. It gave the game a real role playing experience.

@ resources I guess. But it seems like an easy way to add replayability & some role playing into your game imho. Especially since they went light on world states and big choices & consequences in DAV

There’s an option for the tattoos if you’re Elven and have Vallasein. Along the lines of “the Dalish aren’t the only ones who can claim to be Elven” or something like that.

I remember Rook told a bit more about their past as a dialogue choice when first feeding birds with Taash. My LoF Rook mentioned they used to be a Tevinter galley slave. I don’t know if that’s tied to faction/ class but interesting to know!

I think I’d enjoy this a whole lot more if Rook was telling the history of each item TO someone rather than nobody. Otherwise, it just seems like a total case of, “as you know your entire life story, I’m going to repeat it anyway. Because the player/audience might not fricken know!”

My headcanon is Rook spent their whole lives with their factions that they are awkward having been forced to leave them.

It's like they took all the flavor out of an Origins story for Rook and put it into useless paper weights with narration. God this game could've been great

It's really satisfying and frustrating at the same time, having those extra dialogues exclusive to a background being so superficial. It feels like leftovers from early builds they decided to keep because why not.

be fr. the only " flavourful " origins were female city elf and dwarf commoner. thwre was nothing special ab amell surana aeuducan mahariel or cousland lol.

@Inblader and.. that's flavourful to you? cousland is the most bland, generic " noble " starter i've seen. somehow aeudcan is better, but that's bc dwarf lore is cool. but it's still tame. female ( and i have to stress this enough that its the FEMALE version, bc the male one is not as impactful lol ) city elf literally has you killing an entire lineage for being racist r/pists. imagine denerim's face when they see the elf that killed their arl is not only alive and well, but a grey warden who saved their sorry butts. :p or dwarf commoner, who was born a casteless, and can become a paragon. rise from the bottom type stuff. its been done before, but again, dwarf lore cool. i think rook is fine personally. moreso if you choose to be a crow, a GW, or a SD. really, origin stories were never " good " to me in da games except those two but thats okay.

Shadow dragon Rook gets told to step away from the Shadow Dragons.....because Rook freed slaves.....? What in the lazy writing is this......

Because the Shadow Dragon was supposed to be anonymous and nameless and all that but because Rook save those slave they got their name and reputation expose to the Venatori so they had leave to get the heat of the Shadow Dragon. This game have problems but don't call your lack of reading comprehension bad writing

You are still a shadow dragon but are told to lay low for awhile because the Venatori are after you.

@@decader1227your lack of courtesy in online discussion is as telling as the unflattering comparison between the Origins well...origins for the player character and this reductive interpretation of character origins where every Rook of every background has the same story - did the right thing while serving the aims of their group, as with Shadow Dragon and Grey Warden Rook, became conveniently irrelevant as Varric found them. It says lack of effort and creativity, which doesn't endear when already what was once an immersive way to get launched into your character is now your character blandly talking to themselves for a minute.
