Toshiyuki Morikawa is so amazing tho, he also voices Yoshikage Kira. Both Kira and Sephiroth are characters I love! don’t get me wrong DIO’s is one of my favs too (Takehito Koyasu) I also cant play almost any Japanese games in English… with only one exception being Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (2013)… any other games it just doesn’t work for me unless I want a good laugh and am drunk with friends who also enjoy a good laugh. Even fighting games like Street Fighter IV (2008) I can’t… also because Kyle Herbert isn’t anywhere close to sounding like Ryu…

Toshiyuki Morikawa = The Definitive Sephiroth I always cringe when dub fans complain Newborn or Hoechin or whatever isn’t in Smash. I’m like good but also their contracted to a union so it makes sense as to why their not in Smash. Even english speaking relatives tell me that Sephiroth is most intimidating when he’s not voiced in English because they have no idea what he’s saying during a match and that raises the anxiety levels for them, now me I understand what Morikawa/Sephiroth is uttering.

I agree. I was never the biggest fan of Newbern, I thought he sounded a little mature and gravelly for the character. Hoechlin perfectly embodies what i always thought the character should sound like. Calm and smooth, with a touch of madness. I still feel his voice direction needs a bit of work though, to be slightly less monotone. That was always one of Newbern's biggest issues.

Yes! Newbern will always be my #1. For how little Sephiroth spoke in KH1 (non remake), I think Lance Bass did a great job. Lance is definitely the original but Newbern is my favorite! Really not feeling the current VA...sigh.

To me, Newbern will always be Sephiroth. He's been in the role too long for me to accept anyone else yet. I think it's also how he was able to do such an amazing "evil" Superman, moreso in Superman Vs The Elite. He's goody two shoes Superman, then he's the sadistic Sephiroth, then a good middle ground with a Superman who supposedly snapped.

Newbern was a bit too superman in a few parts. Hoechlin is consistent. But nothing is outstanding. But thats not bad either. I like when he simply says "cloud" and "clouuud?" Gently and "Seven seconds" He captures the calm i know something you dont thing. Instead of being a product of the moment and reacting. Seph knows whats happening after the moment, so he ironically doesnt react much or shouldnt after his mental breakdown and jenova fusion. And that gives him power. It would be weaker and uncontrolled to react much in any way in this stage. And more feminine underneath a strong lead. When sephiroth is on. He is the lead in his own story going on behind the scenes. He is doing his own arch whether cloud likes it or not.
