MOST of the 'people' on the Steam hardware survey that are using the 1060 or 1660 or just low end card are NOT PEOPLE AT ALL - THEY ARE COMPUTERS AT INTERNET CAFE'S in countries where owning your own computer is just NOT ECONOMICAL and it's MUCH EASIER to play your game in the cafe down the street for a few dollars - ESPECIALLY when the games you play don't require high end (or even mid range) cards ... because they are RPG that are a few years old and NOT 'TRIPLE-A' Games ...... and EVERY PERSON that has their own Steam account that uses that computer COUNTS AS A COMPUTER WITH THAT CARD ... - - .... in other words that one machine with the 1060 has maybe 200 separate users individuals use it in a month (just for an example) so that shows up in the survey as 200 1060's ... BUT those cafe's also have HIGHER-END machines, with a 2060 or 2070, that you PAY MORE to use.. and those same 200 people will pay extra to play their 'Triple-A' game once in a while.... So then steam see's those accounts that were just using 1060's on another machine with the 2060 and then counts those 200 steam users as having upgraded their machines so they count TWO-HUNDRED 2060's into the survey..... - - PLUS those 200 users don't ALWAYS go to the SAME INTERNET CAFE ALL THE TIME.... maybe there is another i-Cafe that does a sale once a month or something that the 200 users go there for one weekend a month, and those computers have 1660's in them..... so steam then counts another TWO-HUNDRED 1660's into the survey...... - - ALSO if the cafe upgrades their 25 machines from having 1660's to 1060's then those 200 users cause another TWO-HUNDRED 1060's to get added to the survey - Oh and you can't forget all the people that create new accounts for a special sale that Steam has for new users... they all get 'double' or 'triple-counted' into the survey... - - So this Hardware survey is B.S. if you ask me... there are just WAY TOO MANY WAYS that cause the REAL NUMBERS TO BECOME SKEWED... it's NOT A REAL SURVEY! - Also, I don't even know if the survey is automatically run on everyone that logs into steam, and it just grabs a quick hardware info from the machine, OR if the Steam user has to actually RUN THE SURVEY MANUALLY ... (which is a TERRIBLE way to run this survey - it should be AUTOMATIC RUN if steam see that it's never been run, or if there has been a change in the hardware since the last time the users logged in - if it's manually run then NVIDIA could pay places like internet cafe's to ONLY RUN THE SURVEY if they have NVIDIA GPU's in the machine.. and WE ALL KNOW NVIDIA IS MORE THAN WILLING TO DO SOME SHADY STUFF LIKE THAT)

I think the problem with inflation calculators is that inflation is not the same as wage growth. In most countries, wages have grown a lot slower than inflation. This means that GPUs actually feel a lot more expensive than inflation would suggest because it literally takes a lot longer to earn the equivalent amount of money. This is still a great video though.

Can't blame people for not upgrading their GPUs. What I learned from Hardware's Unboxed review of the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB vs RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is that the same spec GPU with higher amount of VRAM will make a difference in future games, especially the Unreal Engine 5 ones. But at a $500 price and that small 128 bit bus width it's really not worth it.
@fabrb26 Жыл бұрын
From 8Gb GDDR6X 3060ti to 16Gb GDDR6 4060ti it's a 608 to 288Gb/s in raw bandwidth, sure it sucks. But that may still be better to play games maxed out settings @ 90fps than 120fps with big stutters or even worst, the need to crank the setting down on your powerful 3060 because of the ram capacity issue. The difference in price is awful, yes, but that's only temporary. Your 8Gb would still be an issue in the years to come in that exemple.

@@fabrb26great thing is that 6800xt offers significantly more performance, has 16gb of VRAM, great bandwidth and costs right around $500
@stangamer1151 Жыл бұрын
4060 Ti won't be able to properly utilize these additional 8GB of VRAM. Neither it has enough memory bandwidth and ROPs to render games at higher resolutions without significant performance loss, nor it has enough raw compute power (shaders) to be future proof for those who want to max out games at 1080p. Future UE5 games will be very demanding, more so than Cyberpunk 2077. And 4060 Ti will be able to run them at 1080p/Medium preset, at best. I mean, in some rare cases, when 8GB create artificial bottleneck, 16GB version will be faster, but at some point both of the versions will become obsolete and 16GB won't help this GPU much.
@MrKillswitch88 Жыл бұрын

I think the reason why everyone refuses to upgrade at low end is low VRAM. People bought 6GB VRAM In 2016, so they kinda expect something like 10 or 12GB in 2023 at same tier, but nope instead they get 8GB that's barely holding it together. Currently only viable upgrade path is either 6700 XT at low end or sprinkle extra cash and get 4070 which is great all around.

For the price the RX 6600 is fine for 1080p. The thing is there is plenty of people bewitched with this or that nvidia specific thing... or simple brand loyalism even if it isnt deserved. Things like you have a G-sync monitor with the chip? Nvidia has to be. For example.

I wouldn't call the 6700XT "low end", it's a very capable GPU even for WQHD and all around best bang for buck at this time. Low End would be a 6600, which isn't super fast but also not totally crippled, and the 6700XT almost doubles it's performance.

When I say good graphics I mean it looks good and it runs fine, not crank up everything(crank up only the things you feel are the most important for you). People seem so averse to touch settings or feel disapointed if they cant go ALL ULTRAAAAA UHHH. That's a trap you enter at your own risk. Buy a decent card that lets you play at your resolution in high or better, squeeze it for years just taking this and that a notch down as games became more demanding(not better, just more demanding sometimes), and when you have to change is when medium starts to fall off playable fps. Note about playable fps: depending on genre above 30 is enough.

I have 1650 Super at the moment, and I'm mostly satisfied with it, but it would just be nice to get a CPU+GPU upgrade on AM4 platform, so it's better to do it by the end of the year or so, while it's still in stock. So the best option for me so far is 4060 as it fits perfectly within my limited 450W PSU, as it's not power hungry unlike something like 6700 XT. I wanted to try team Red, but it's either potentially upgrading more parts: PSU, Case due to the size and power requirements of AMD cards, or I'll wait for the 7700 series that's supposed to come out in September. Having said that, I don't have much faith in a current GPU market as I think we'll see a big leap in performance only after Sony and Microsoft refresh their console lineup to this gen's "Pro" version and that's where we probably start seeing better value GPU's overall. But yes, if there's a need to boost the FPS 2-3 times now coming from an older card, then 4060, 7600, 6700XT or even waiting a bit could be a very nice option.

Adding my 2 cents to this. Your testing methodology is possibly flawed. I would hazard a guess that your test rig is a modern motherboard, with PCI-E gen 4. The target audience for this video - assumed to be using a 1060 - is probably also on an older motherboard as well, probably PCI-E gen 2. The bus width on the older architecture is going to limit the maximum capability of the newer GPU's. So the actual performance gains would probably not be as high as those you are demonstrating. For the record I'm still using a 1080 with an X79 motherboard (PCI-E gen 2).

I'll be looking for 72 FPS (preferably 120 FPS) at just over 4K with everything cranked on new VR titles (quality upscaling is fine, and I can live without RT. Although when playing single player VR open world games for immersion, RT would be nice. Even if it requires DLSS3 not to be nauseating). Not keen on the current offerings of a RX 6800 XT or RTX 4070 for @$900 AUD.

The question I have is will you really double your performance if you drop one of these GPUs into the machine with the 1060?. For one thing, you won't have a 7800X3D CPU in that machine. And, for another, you won't have DDR5. So, is the performance uplift really 2x, 3x or is it more like 1.5x or less?
@olnnn Жыл бұрын
I haven't done a full bench run but I just upgraded from a 6gb 1060 (one of the pretty much top of the line OCed EVGA 1060s) to a rx 6600 on my AM4 system with a 5600x cpu and it was def more than a 1.5x boost at least. Would need to go a few gens furter back to start getting cpu bottlenecked in most modern games with any of the shown gpus still - though the higher end GPU the less it takes ofc. There are also going to be games that are more heavy on the CPU like racing sims that aren't shown on these channels all that often.
@liontuga155 Жыл бұрын
@@olnnn You’re very lucky. The 5600x was released in late 2020, which means there really is a ton of people with CPUs older than yours still paired with a 1060. I’m one of them. IMO, the OP hit the nail on the head, mostly because when first gen Ryzen was launched (2017), it was very common for tech youtubers to recommend pairing a Ryzen 1600 CPU with a 1060, which was actually quite reasonable, I guess.
@olnnn Жыл бұрын
@@liontuga155 True. was just an example. Agree in general that Daniel here should have demoed here with a system that would have been more likely to have been paired with a 1060 originally (I bought a used one much later as a temporary thing) that definetly won't have pcie 4.0 (i'm on a b450 myself so only 8x pcie 3.0 with the rx 6600) and could maybe even lack SAM/ReBAR support if unlucky and something closer to a first gen ryzen cpu as you mention. The slightly lower CPU overhead with AMD vs nvidia may also start to have some impact in this situation.

@AirGunWeb Жыл бұрын
Please forgive me if I missed it, but what was the testing platform? The premise of this video is what GPU to upgrade to if you are using older hardware like the 1060. So if you ran all these tests on current Gen parts: cpu, ram, pci bus, etc., then are the results applicable? Rather, if you ran these tests on what would be a typical setup for 5, 6, or 7 years ago, then that would certainly be more accurate? I’m curious to know your thoughts on how you setup your tests. Cheers Rick

Ok. So I wrote my comment while listening and watching. You put the test config specs in the video description. (Thanks) So if you are running the “fastest” hardware, how does this comparison have relevance with someone that’s going to drop a “new” gpu in an old system? Certainly if you are going to try and show someone a direction then testing on similar class hardware would be better and more helpful? Wouldn’t you think? Thoughts? Thanks Rick

but also shows how amd gpus age better than nvidia, and when you make the choice you need to consider it, for example, r9 390 and 390x, compared to gtx 970 and 980 and gtx 1060 were in the middle around, lets say about the same, depends the games, but few years later in most games you need at least 6gb+ to over 8gb, even in older games, like fallout 76, marvels avengers, guardians of galaxy, tomb raider, rdr 2, god of was, godfall, not sure but horizon zero down was also one of them, shows how games between 2015 and 2020 also can get 6-7 and even over 8gb at 1080p, and in some of those games, the nvidia gpus are half the fps, probably the biggest reason is the vram capacity and bits. But then you need to think when you buy something new, and you want to keep that gpu for longer time, like if you have still 1060 or some of those gpus, so many years, how it will age, because see it like that, they were about same fps before, and now in the half games are way less or even half of it. I would say both companies have pluses and minuses, but if we speak here just for fps and how the gpus are aging, we need to think about it. Imagine spending so much money for 8gb in 2023 and want to keep to 3-4 generation, as the people who still have 1060, believe, me if you have 8gb on new gpu now, in 3-4 generations, you will have half the fps than the same gpus now with 12 or 16gbs, sad for who bought 3070, 3080 for having them for long period, powerful gpus with limiting them vram. And in general, i think noone should buy gpu in 2023 with 8 and even 10gb, even if the gpu is 100$, that gpus are powerful enough to play 1440p max settings, some of them in some games even at 4k 60fps, and are bottleneck by the vram, noone should buy them, as buying before few years 4 or 6gb cards, as well. From the games i have there are many older games which are going more than 8gb, not only the few new ones, and we are speaking about 1080p some of them few years old games
