Besides not having to pay for online, you also have access to playstation and xbox games on steam. Also emulation and the catalogue of old games on steam that you just can't play on modern consoles. The value is simply better.

@@robertlawrence9000 3 years of PS+ (minimal expected lifetime of PS5 pro and this PC) would cost 240$. Playing online and cloud saves are very important for me and most of PC gamers. On PC you have access to regional pricing with actual value; different game stores with great deals: humble with very low priced bundles, EGS with free giveaways and 10$ coupons in addition to sale, Gamepass that you can buy for month to play the games you want for price lower than on xbox and with very good regional prices in some places. And talking about PC exclusive experiences: modding, which gives multiple lives to games you already bought (usually for free); very cheap prices for old games most of which work without problems and run in your max resolution and framerate, lots of great indie games which release only on PC. All of this experiences cost less than playing big new AAA games, but might be even more fun. Also on PC big is price of entry. If we talking about buying PC for 1200$, something like 400$ worth of components will go to your next PC even if you completely switching platform. So next upgrade would cost you less. So, in general PC would be at least same value in long term especially if you buy high quality future proof components.

I'd say you can use Linux (Linux Mint and ZorinOS are *very* easy to use. Mint is easily my favorite distro to recommend), but for the very average user, the ones who barely know what a mouse is, it'll be just out of reach. Historically, people who used Linux were more technical, so there are still a few rough edges for the average user that need to be sorted out.

7500F and a 7900GRE is the best bang for buck combo. AM4 isn't a massive cost saving. get a used RX6800/xt if you're trying to keep under budget. The true benifit of PC is once you've already invested in a case, PSU, storage and peripherals and to some extent Motherboard and RAM...you can upgrade CPU and GPU components while also selling those parts to recoup upgrade costs...So upfront a PC can be more expensive but overtime it gets cheaper. Consoles are locked in so the only way to upgrade is purchase an entire new console and perhaps sacrifice all your DLC in doing so...

All this upgrade does is allow for a stable 60fps instead of 30fps in quality modes. With a $1000 PC, you have a 2K gaming beast, a workstation, and everything in between. Plus, you can upgrade a PC anytime-you don’t have to wait five years for a new PlayStation to drop. Once games become more demanding, and if the PS6 isn’t out yet, even the PS5 Pro won’t consistently run them at 2K 60fps. I've owned every PlayStation since the PS2 and also use a PC, but there’s no debate. Also, you won’t get true 4K 60fps with ray tracing on high settings. Are you talking about path tracing? Even an RTX 4090 struggles with that. You might get some low-level ray tracing, but not much more.

Very close but I see a problem; Equivelant GPU = equivelant performance BUT equivelant CPU ≠ equivelant performance You've got a heavier OS doing more tasks, not to mention the 3600/x has SEVERLY less bandwidth which general especially RAY TRACING absolutely needs. Ideally you need better infinity cache, nvme 4.0, and to take advantage of ReBar/ SAM. Faster transfer speed from SSD to CPU to RAM back to CPU to VRAM is a negative performance factor on pc that consoles don't have. Ryzen 3000-5000 chips very much DO benefit from having four sticks of RAM in gaming as well by 8-15% in "modern" games, so 4x8 3600 cl 16 or even 18 is fiiine but optional A 5600 non x (undervolt + stock cooler) and a b550 chipset is required. Definitely snag whatever parts you can USED ALSO note that a 4070 is absolutely not needed as pointed out by other comments. Likely cherry picked scenario aka racing game which aren't hard to run. A 7700 xt is fiiine, you've got improved rt over last gen and while taking the other options I had listed above you'll reach the targets, also FSR3.1 is *now* dlss3 (not 3.7) quality and just now getting to be in most games. AFMF2/ Lossless Scaling seems to be decent at 40fps (even better on a 120hz VRR display) -> 60+ fps

If Daniel actually followed what Digital Foundry said then he would go for something 45% faster then the RTX 2070, and thats the 4060Ti 8GB, or AMD 6750XT, but PS5 is RDNA 4 which means way better RT so the best equivalent to the PS5 pro is the 4060Ti 8GB, also using ssd way slower then the PS5 pro defeats the purpose of building a comparable system to see how the price would match, this video is disingenuous at best and maliciously fakw news at worst.

I think the upgradability is a big factor. Yes, buying a whole PC upfront is going to cost, but if you're upgrading you're only buying a GPU and CPU, especially if you're being sensible and going Ryzen. Realistically you only upgrade every 3 - 4 years. Hypothetically, if you already own a PC and want to upgrade to a PS5 Pro equivalent you'll only spend ~$630. If you have to get an AM4 motherboard as well it's ~$714. This is with a 4070 so you'll beat the PS5 Pro.

If you don't mind buying used GPU. RTX 2080ti for $200-250 is about 30% faster than standard PS5 and has 11GB of Vram and DLSS! PS5 is close to 2070S or 2080, but these GPUs only have 8GB or Vram so I don't recommend them in 2024. 2080ti is significantly faster then the PS5, so it would let you play games with higher settings, or you could use same optimized settings but bump up render resolution. But the biggest winner is DLSS which looks significantly better than FSR. For example the PS5 will play Alan Wake 2 at 60fps, 1440p FSR balanced (872p render), but 2080ti will do the same framerate in 2160p DLSS performance (1080p). The difference in PQ will be like night and day. If you wanna do 1440p DLSS balanced this would still look much cleaner than FSR. I'm speaking from my own experience as I have a PS5 from day one, and I'm also using 2080ti in my PC.

One huge factor to consider that not many are mentioning for some odd reason is fps caps. In this video, you decide to go for the 4070 because it should have similar upscaling tech to the ps5 pro, but how important is that truly if ps5 games are still gonna have locked frame rates? You could have the ps6 and games like red dead redemption 2, for example, will still be stuck at 30fps!!! However, if you give up that upscale tech and get the rx 6800 instead, it’ll be way closer to the 700$ range with better realistic performance in most games. Now you’re looking at red dead redemption 2 running at 1440 native resolution at ultra settings at a consistent 60+ fps

@@aaronclay4665 Yah but they can buy a PS5 instead of a Pro right, does it matter if they don't have the uber version? PC is like that too, for the price of the Pro you'll get a low/mid PC, you can play with your friends all that jazz but you're making the choice to do that rather than dumptruck money on a 7800X3D/4090 rig for example. Ultimately it still shows the bang for buck of the platform is probably a lower consideration. I have been a PC main since the 90s but owned/played all consoles the whole time until XBO/PS3; Switch for Nintendo. I still remember all the venom getting chucked out in the PS3 vs 360 vs PC era, just never got it. They are less different to PC now, but they still serve different audiences and the performance per dollar really shouldn't be a factor if they have the games you want and play them well with your friends. Switch on the other hand, that thing I understand performance focus because it's goddamn dogshit 😂 I actually avoid playing it because the framerate is unbearable.

@@jesusdiaz270 Not all PC people, I'm one of them. My job is literally designing, pricing, marketing custom built gaming PC's and I don't understand the obsession with this comparison nor do I think it's a realistic. From personal experience, people are more likely to buy a better balanced PC than the one in this video, and with the budget of a PS5 Pro it's going to be entry level. With the budget of any other console I wouldn't even sell it as a gaming PC. In Australia the regular PS5 is $679, the minimum GPU I would spec is the RX 6600 and that's $300 by itself, and two models down from what he says in this video is in the PS5 (not pro). It's not even close, and that's OK because it's not an apples to apples comparison to begin with, not should it be a primary focus of a buyer as mentioned in my OP.

Exactly. So far all we really have of the PS5 Pro is the DigitalFoundry Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comparison, showing that PSSR can indeed do better than Unreal 4 TAA at least, and a few lesser comparisons that show off that the PS5 Pro can produce more detail with the same input resolutions. We have zero idea right now on how much more it can push in the RT department. This is why I argue that it is very dangerous to low ball people with current AMD GPU's which have lousy RT performance. If someone is going out and buying a PS5 Pro killer blind and immediately, they should get a 4070, on a CPU that is noticeably better than PS5, to ensure the headroom is there.

The cheapest system I can find on best buy's website with a comparable video card (7700XT) is 1200 bucks. It does have a much faster Ryzen 7700 CPU, but its not in the same price range as a PS5 Pro. There just doesn't seem to be many reasonably priced OEM PCs with a decent component mix. If you like building PCs, you probably already have something faster than a PS5 Pro, or just need $400 to upgrade the video card. If you build a new PC, you should also add a Windows license to the cost. If you build a PC for someone else, you have the continuing cost of providing tech support.

PS5 Pro, I just don't understand it. Where is the value in such a device and ecosystem? I've been a PC user since the 6th generation consoles (Dreamcast, Gamecube, XBOX etc.) and honestly, PC Gaming has (at least for me) been a whole lot cheaper in the long run, while offering superior experiences as well (higher resolution, better framerates etc)... I mean, I still have access to ALL of my 400+ games since 20 years back (and I can run most at 4K and even mod high-res texture packs if I want to) and I have also been able to collect all my games throughout my 80's/90's childhood through emulation, same goes for Nintendo games (don't worry I bought the games, not the consoles however) On the PC I have never.... - paid for online subscription - needed to buy expensive marked up games - felt the urge to re-buy HD remasters - felt the need to own several different console hardware due to "exclusive games" - never needed to change peripherals due to being locked to a specific manufacturer or generation. People tell me that PC is "SO EXPENSIVE" but usually it's just a small extra upfront cost, but when you have bought yourself into the eco-system you can keep your chassi for an eternity, the PSU usually last two platform upgrades (Heck I have a 30 year old fully working PSU still running). Same goes for storage, especially now with SSDs if you use them more as static storage for game- and media- library (causing very few read/write cycles. Today I have 7GB SSD space in total divided on 3 disks). Also, I can often remove the entire platform cost since I would need the PC professionally anyway. I generally only see the GPU as the only actual "gaming cost". These days I keep my platform for 10+ years and upgrade my GPU every 5-6 years (being only an incremental cost as I can recoup some of that cost by selling the previous GPU). Yeah, no. I will never go console again, and now when PC handhelds is a thing. I will likely never won't buy a handheld console either.

From that perspective as a gaming machine, the PS5 is good. Of course if you just want one machine there is nothing that is as versatile as a PC, but that's not the goal of a console to be...

One thing I think videos keep getting wrong about Playstation Plus and its cost is that it isn't as cut and dry as "you have to pay to play online". The most played games on almost every system, be it PC, PS, XBOX, are F2P and on both Xbox and PS you don't need online subscriptions to play those games, eg Warzone, Fortnite, Valorant etc. Moreover, I'd say the PS+ Extra is great value. Sure its £99 per year but there's 462 games in the game catalog (PS equivalent of Game Pass). And those games are games you'd be paying £20-60 for. Regardless of price there's just some incredible titles in there: Bloodbourne, Animal Well, Undertale, Remnant 2, Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima, RE2, Uncharted series, Last of us Part 1 remake, Death Stranding, Doom Etneral, Returnal, Control, Disco Elysium, God of War....I could list another 20 easily. There's 1000's of hours of brilliant gaming to be had. If I bought god of war on steam it would set me back $50. Or sure pick it up on CDK for like $15 but even then after you've bought a handful of games you've made up the cost difference I spent on PS+ Extra. I appreciate theres even more nuance but I don't want to write war and peace ha P.S - PS+ Gives you pretty hefty discounts as well so the money really isn't as simple as £99 gone

Most people doesn't count Europe. In Europe PS5 Pro is 800e, that's like 880$. Also ps1,2,3,4, retro consoles, xbox360, nintendo switch emulation with this pc will work smooth. Free online, plenty of apps without ads or anything. Couple ps games are exclusive rn, everything else is on pc. There is game pass which you can share with 8 people. Cheap cd-keys for every game. Settings in games for most fps and adjusted visuals as you like. You want 144fps, just use dlss/fsr and frame generation, you want better visuals, just go native on ultra settings. Turn off shadows and get 10-20fps. Plug and play is good but with pc you can also do that. I just turn on my controller and it's connected to pc. A lot of free games from epic store too. PC will get bloodborne 60fps before PS.

Games on PC aren’t always cheaper. Physical games still exist for consoles, and you can get them used sometimes for huge discounts. Hey, some comments for you: the 16GB of RAM in the PS5 is a 2 GB for the OS and 14GB for games. So how much is used for the program data and how much is for graphics processing is up to the devs. I also think you're beginning to see devs really take advantage of the 7GB/s data bandwidth more on PS5 now (see Spider-Man 2), so it will be interesting to see what those future PC ports will require (PS5 NvME is capable of around 8GB/s throughput thanks to the hardware compression/decompression chip; most devs just aren't pushing their games that hard because they know it would limit the market on PC). Additionally, the PS5 Pro is now running with a memory bandwidth of 576 GB/s, which is over 10% higher than a 4070. There's a chance that in non-CPU limited scenarios, the PS5 Pro could match the 4070 in some metrics due to this extra bandwidth - especially if the PSSR upscaler is doing a good job & the developer has taken the time to optimize for the console. If we assume these upgrades come with additional power cost, let's say 20%, the PS5 Pro would still be expected to consume around 240W during heavy gaming, which is still way lower than this build - the 4070 alone consumes about that much power under load. While the cost of power doesn't offset the cost of PSN+, it's still a bit more competitive than you present in the video. On the CPU side for the "beats the PS5 Pro": you probably want an 8 core if you are going to build a new PC. Yes, it's more expensive, but when you factor in typical use case for PC gamers has lots of background tasks (all those launchers and RGB managers) and PS5 games are designed to have uninterrupted access to 6 or 7 dedicated cores, then having some extra cores that can handle your PC background tasks is ideal. Finally, the suggestion of "if you have a console game collection, so you might want a disc drive for the PS5 Pro" is a bit unfair to the PS5: the PS5 only supports PS5 and PS4 games, and PS4 emulation is a thing now. So if you want a backwards compatible disc drive, you'd probably want a disc drive for your PC too - and in fact, thanks to emulation you could play more games on the PC than just PS4 and PS5, so it's more value add to the PC than it is to the PS5 Pro! But yes, the PS5 Pro needs to include the disc drive and stand at the current price.
@Innosos
@Innosos 3 ай бұрын
The SSD bandwidth is a good point but not unique to the PS5 Pro. The memory bandwidth difference is negligable when you consider that the PS5 also uses that bandwidth to do its RAM. Hardware specific optimization will have a bigger impact than that small advantage. You can undervolt the 4070 quite nicely to get closer to the PS5. Chances are a PC is still gonna consume more just be the nature of its modularity. 8-cores are unnecessary for gaming. RGB managers - what are you talking about? A launcher like Steam costs you almost nothing in background tasks. If you compare apples to apples - as in you don't run stupid bs in the background cuz the PS5 can't do that either you'll be more than fine with 6 cores. I don't follow your disc drive emulation argument. Most people who emulate don't actually rip their own blu-rays or DVDs but rather hoist the sails and go pirating. You don't buy the necessary equipment for each and every potential system you want to emulate games from - or even buy an original copy of the particular game - let's be real.
@DouglasWatt
@DouglasWatt 3 ай бұрын
@@Innosos On the disc drive point, I was commenting with regards to the logic presented in the video as to the value of a disc drive, not what is typical user behavior. You're right, most people who emulate do so with less-than-legal copies, but if you find value in a PS5 disc drive, you'd probably find value in a PC disc drive as well. And I work in video games professionally. You ABSOLUTELY want 8 cores for modern gaming, esp. on titles that are releasing this year and next. The PS5 is an 8 core CPU with 6.5 cores reserved for the OS. For a PS5-equivalent PC, you would also want 8 cores for the OS and background tasks plus the game. Additionally, many PC games will run on lots of threads if you have more available. Yes, older games do not, but newer games - the kind of games that would be targeted for the PS5 Pro, don't have PS4 versions, and are fully designed for modern PCs, would indeed see a performance benefit to 8 cores - in non-GPU bound scenarios. Most PC gamers though prefer to play in GPU-bound scenarios, so there is a question of user behavior at play too. However, even if you play the games that aren't CPU-bound, if you want to so stuff like capturing gameplay, the PS5's dedicated CPU cores will handle that without as much a performance hit as happens on PC (the PS5 is constantly recording several minutes of your gameplay at all times). And for the SSD - I completely agree that it applies to PC. But he put in a pretty slow SSD because most games to date haven't mandated it (despite plenty of games still showing a performance improvement), but I think buying a slower drive to save bucks is going to begin to see longer load times as more devs take advatnage of the proliferation of faster drives.

True, but if you factor the cost of games + a subscription I feel like the value offer makes more sense. Say you upgrade systems every generation (PS4 to PS5 or ps4 pro to ps5 pro). In that period of time (8 years since the ps4 pro) you buy a conservative 1 game a year. 8x60 = $480. Add to that the cost of ps plus for 8 years ($160 for 12 months x 8 years = $1280). Not including the vertical stand, in that amount of time you’d have spent $2,460 from console gen to console gen. Easier to stomach paying it bit by bit over the course of 8 years, but for that much you could easily afford to get a basic gaming pc, a 1440p monitor, a keyboard and desk. With whatever you have left over, very slowly upgrade your pc.

It that's true of you, figure in that $800 you would spend on a laptop during the life of the console to the cost of the console, because that's a cost you don't have to pay if you bought a PC. So that "$700 console" is actually $700 + ($79.99 x 4 year console lifespan) + $800 for a laptop = $1,820. For that price, you could have a high end PC, or a mid tier PC and the monitor, desk, and chair.

I had PS4 pro. I have ps5, switch, and a gaming PC, and a very nice TV. I suspect I am the target market, but this update makes no sense to me personally. (I actually find the UI a little annoying on the PS5, if I'm honest) Basically, I use the PS5 to play online games with friends when cross platform isn't supported, and some PS4 one player games. Yeah, it's nice to just sit on the sofa, but I will just put the price of the PS5 pro towards a GPU. I can also claim the GPU as a business expense. (Heck there is nothing stopping me connecting the PC to the TV, but yeah the PS5 is infinitely more portable for moving room to room) Oh and Sony just increased the price of their controllers. And let's face it as fabulous as the dual sense is, they don't build controllers like they used to But if they convince a very small fraction to purchase it (enough to break even) and it pushes some PS4 users to buy the base Ps5, then I guess Sony will be happy

A bit of a nitpick, but the Ryzen 5 5500 is basically the same as the 3600, except newer, and $10 cheaper.

Indeed, the architecture design of the 5000 gen Ryzen is the peak of Zen 3, even comparable to the Zen 4 when measured in cost ratio. However, the limitation of 6 core might be a downer when compared to the standard 8 core of console.... I can't run Space Marine 2 optimally because I'm cpu limited on my ryzen 5 5600.

RDNA4 GPU's are also coming fairly soon, probably within a couple months of PS5 Pro, give or take. And these will likely offer further improvements in value on the GPU front, and something more directly comparable to PS5 Pro.

"most solo games can be found cracked" that´s a big lie there. Most of 2023 and 2024 best single player games have Denuvo and no crack because Empress doesn´t crack anymore. If you are cracking Indie games don´t even bother discussing about gaming, you are a roach

PCs are marginally upgradable. I think this is a very oversold talking point in the PC vs console debate. There are so many socket, PCIE lane, and DDR updates every few years. I think buying tech early on in any new generation of those types of technologies is bad value. Maturity in a socket, PCIE Lane, and DDR iteration allow hardware developers to get actual results from those infrastructures. Then by the time you build a PC with mature hardware, if you want to upgrade and actually get value out of those upgrades, you need a new motherboard, maybe a new PSU. This requirement of needing to upgrade multiple components at a time is especially common because Intel has the majority of the CPU market share (usually a socket change every 2 generations, constantly seeing power draw go up), and NVidia has the vast majority of the GPU marketshare (constantly seeing power draw go up).

@@maynardburger However it's likely the new GPU is just as expensive as the PS5 Pro.. I'm a PC guy but I wouldn't tell the average parent to build a PC just so their son can play spoderman. It might be funny but this is the truth. There are more birthday kids out there asking for a console each year than all of PC gaming combined.

For Pro 4070 Super or 7800xt. CPU 8700G or 5800x. (yes 3700x is said to be closer to a PS5 and 6700 for gpu) This is to cater for ram speeds gddr6 576Gb/s and forget price. Also even though its zen2 on PS5 Pro the cpu is custom.

I will never not laugh at the console fanboys that claim you have to pour thousands of dollars into your PC to keep it updated while claiming consoles are more than powerful enough. But the second a "PRO" version of their favorite console is released they're falling all over themselves trying to buy one for that precious performance boost they could have had years earlier if they'd only gone PC in the first place. PC: The "Pro" model was always available.

This is probably why all consoles don't have fps counters built in so you never know if you're hitting 60 fps at any given time. They don't want you to know.

Yes, it's not something they are proud of to show. They can't really hide it tho. One can enable the smart TV's FPS counter with a remote click or two. Maybe there's one in the google app store too for android TVs not coming with one preinstalled. I have an Xbox SX and when I switch back to the HDMI channel of my TCL it also briefly shows me the Hz of the running game

The AMD stock cooler is silent but the CPU overheats and performs worse. There are cheap options that will work better. At this point, all B450 boards will have newer BIOS, that is not an issue. My choice for the CPU would be the 5500, as in recent games will be faster than the 3600. (and $10 less). It has half the L3 but it is not split between the pair of 3 cores, as in Zen 2.
