I spoke with my son’s coach yesterday because there were a couple of things that frustrated me in the tournament the day before. I came at it from a different angle than I had planned by initially asking just some basic questions that were pretty innocent and lead with some positive comments. Because of how he answered the initial questions and after giving him the time to speak freely without interruption I never even had to discuss with him my frustrations. Worked out well.

This video is spot on! I am adding a link to this video to my parent meeting agenda next season. Everything you say here applies to any difficult conversation. Assume good intent until proven otherwise. Thank you for making the world a better place.

Fantastic advice all the way around. I’ve found that by having a real conversation with a coach that consists of both their input and my own is what usually results in a net positive outcome for my son. Talking past each other or yelling solves nothing and makes the concerns worse.

I am so glad I found your channel at the beginning of summer. You've helped me out as a parent in to this travel/ tournament ball world. I use your advice on both my 13 year old who is now getting more serious about playing and my 11 year old daughter who just started travel softball. And this video in particular speaks volumes to me. Just a few months ago I probably would've cursed out one of my kids coaches for what happened over the weekend but now watching your videos gives me a whole different perspective on the game and me as a parent on how to handle these types of situations. Thank you again. And we now have "borrowed" 😂 your saying. "Don't like it, Play Better !!"

thats great - I'm glad ive had a positive impact. It's hard, and I myself try to remember that parents are always doing their best as well for their kids - it goes both ways. I have a lot more parenting content on my Tik Tok and IG as well! Cheers!

I wish a parent had watched this before approaching me. A dad walks over to me after the game, orders me to walk with him and says “why do you have your best player, my son, sitting on the bench for the first two innings.” This is fall ball mind you (casual low stakes). I said “kids at the top of the order give way to kids at the bottom for defensive playing time.” Before I could really finish, dad starts shaking his head and walks away. 🤯

The frustration over playing time baffles me

Hi Coach, Thank you for this video, this really helped after very upsetting game we had in Soccer this past weekend. So I’m really glad I watched this first. I do have one question. During this past weeks Comp Soccer game there was a little time as a call was made, my Son approached the coach and asked for a quick splash of water, the Coaches body language in the Video was with him throwing his hands in the air and saying NO it’s only been 20 minutes, as my Son is walking off he is still saying stuff and throwing his arms around . Is this something I should talk to him about as it’s really bothering me .

I'm really not sure, but in general, stay out of it

Question: do you still have your academy? If not, what was the reason for leaving it behind? I'd imagine youtube and your other revenue streams are much more profitable, but replacing the reward of building up young men and the personal relationships would be tough. Great video as always!

I retired from my playing career and had a major identity crisis, and decided to move back to the East Coast and start over as a speaker. Still on the road to becoming a full time speaker.

@DanBlewett well the content you're putting out is having a great impact on me personally. My son is 12 and while it's getting better, he's at an age where it's difficult for him to absorb anything coming from his dad, so watching your videos together has been a blessing. You and Coach Cals KZbin are my best friends. I appreciate your perspective, God bless!
