Ultimately, the problem is the walls that the studios have up, and the way it takes to get over them. If a person has a good idea and they send it in as a script, it's sent back unread with the label "No unsolicited materials." This means it has to be submitted by an agent. So you send it to an agent and they send it back unread with the label "No unsolicited materials." This means it has to be submitted to them by a manager. So you send it to a manager and they send it back unread with the label "No unsolicited materials." So how do you get it solicited. Well, that's where "it's who you know" comes in. It all becomes about relationships and socializing your way to "the right people." You have to get yourself seen by them, then liked by them, and you have to remain in their good graces. This means kissing their asses and never calling them out on anything. This is how sexual harassment and those sorts of things happened, because plenty of people see it, but the ones who call it out are blacklisted and can never get their projects seen again. Those who do play ball; who help cover up misdeeds and hang around only "the right people" finally get their projects seen, and those are what are chosen for movies. So the bottom line is, the skills it takes to get your films made are not the abilities to tell a good and original story; they are about socializing with the "right" people. And by the time you get through all of that, you're too exhausted to come up with an original story, so you just retell an old one at a time when these social walls were not quite as tightly built.

It isn't just script writing. When you look at background of various child actors/actresses that graduate to larger roles. Those from UK are mostly all from theater where you have to prove yourself, vs the US in which a disproportionate number are the children of actors, models, action stars.

Also, studio heads tightly control certain narratives. This explains why Holocaust movies hit the big screen while Adolph Hitler's: The Greatest Story Never Told is relegated to Bitchute
