Also this is from another commentor "The director of this mv is Cho Giseok. He's a popular surrealist artist. He also directed Grl Gvng and Woke Up. He's good at blending surrealism and cultural realism in his work. He and XGALX design and production team used CGI/2D/3D to create this masterpiece. It's not all aesthetics either. XG mvs are multi-layered and multi-dimensional. They used a lot of MJ references so you could say that this is like a tribute to him - Thriller, moonwalk, "dangerous", the Earth Song. There are also pop culture references like Princess Mononoke, Hunger Games, the way Harvey stopped the bullets like in the Matrix, GOT wildings"

This is such fantastic insight!! Love how all of it blends together with the hybrids of surrealism and movement quality! Means a lot you took the time to share!

Great you clarified on the terminology on the moonwalk. There is also a move actually called the moonwalk but it's not the backslide or any glide.
@jess_holyfield11 сағат бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! I had some comments who actually felt the opposite to my feedback about what it's called, but I know it's a good area to talk about! I know with moonwalking, it's more circular and the lean and weight placement are priorities within the move! Mr. Wiggles does a pretty good job applying it in a polyrhythmic format!

@@JoseRojas-qr7qs a lot of the dance scene (street dance scene in the US) calls it the backslide still!

@@JoseRojas-qr7qs because the moonwalk is a circular glide . (This type of situation has happened between the moves the jerk and the Reject as well because of a popularized song in the 2010s )

Really. Your comment about MJ calling the dance move the moon walk was snarky and so petty it made me nauseous. Such a snarky self righteous attitude. Who gives a crap if you feel the need to correct that. MJ was an ICON and the term "MOONWALK" turned out to be an iconic term. Your so cool. You just had to educate us huh. WTF ever.
@jess_holyfield16 сағат бұрын
Hey there. Firstly, thank you for taking the time to express your opinion and perspective, it something I always try to receive regardless if it's positive or constructive. I would like to ask if it was my tone or sentence structure that gave the impression of snarky and self righteous, or if it was that I said that I felt the obligation as a teacher to express that. If it was tone, I can always do a better job of expressing my perspective in a way that doesn't sound condescending! If it was stating my scope as an educator, I don't mind leaving that scope expressed in the intro and just speaking about the terminology and how it was called over a period of time before moving on. If it was the fact I spoke on how MJ misidentified the backslide and called it the moonwalk, I will not apologize for that. I am in full agreement that MJ was such an icon and SUCH a pillar in the dance community to where he provided so much opportunity to street dancers who had incredible investment to the inception of the funk genres that MJ was an artist of, and so if my statement of correction came across that I was anti MJ, I apologize because I feel quite the opposite! I will say that I did say very soon after that statement that it was fine that it happened and that it doesn't take away from the beauty of what this was, the cultural word play of the composition of the track, and the awesomeness that this way. Looking forward to hearing back and I would love to have you look at some other XG choreographies to get a better feel for what scope I was operating in while watching this since at this point I have already seen their documentary and entire discography!
