I was born 1964. My parents were very young. We didn't have any furniture in our living room but an old easy chair from my mom's mother and an old rocking chair from my Dad's mother. There was also a record player and a tiny black and white TV. One of my earliest memories is dancing the Twist with my parents to an appearance on some rock show.

Growing up in Louisiana and having been a teenager in the 60s..i can attest to the authenticity of these moves...notably when the dancers, doing the TWIST, did that slight leg lift during the finish of a twist cycle..And i admired the smooth galloping on the dancers doing the PONY..I once won.a dance contest using the PONY as my central move..I won a Gentrys album, KEEP ON DANCING..There were lots of teeage garage bands then that did covers of R &B that gave us plenty of chances to hit dance floor...This is so fun to see these clips. In my 80th year and still remember and love the sixties. Listening to the music transports me back to a time when I believe it was more fun to be young, even though we did not have all the mobile phones and gadgets that the kids have today.I grew up in a small city and there were dances on most nights of the week, the "pubs" were always full with people enjoying themselves and everyone seemed happier then.

Every time I hear Marvelous Marvin two memories come back. My late Auntie M who would have been 78 this year - she introduced me to his music in about 1967. Second one of those moments where you are when something tragic happens like, Kennedy, Princess Diana, and 9/11. For me sitting in Oklahoma City airport on my way to Dallas - I immediately bought his greatest hits cassette for my journey - I would drive back to Denver from Dallas with it playing continuously... Thanks Marvin for all the memories...too smooth by half.

I grew up doing all these dances. My mother showed me the "camel walk". I was expecting the dancers to hold their nose, act as if they were going under water doing the "Swim". That is what we use to do. The Boogaloo and the Jerk were my favorite. I don't remember seeing them do the "Pony". I went on Miami, FL Rick Shaw show dancing. I loved it, wanted to be a dancer, then got hit by a car... My parents didn't mind it too much. Good exercise for sure. The neighborhood kids would get together and dance everywhere we could. Great times.

I truly miss the days of social and regional dances. They always made parties super lit, especially when everyone did the dance with their own variations. I remember going to visit relatives in other cities, back in the day. The key things we had to find out were the best radio stations and the type of dances they were doing at the time. This was definitely the case in the mid-'80s as street dances became more technical and edgy. Great times!!! Thanks for sharing!!

Absolutely outta control !!!!! I was born in 1961 and probably was doing the "Twist" in my mother's womb !!! By the age of three I was hanging around with my mother's friend Doris who loved to watch over me when mom needed a break ! Spinning and dancing to the hits of the day , such a joyous outlet and the music was positively awesome !!! Being a boy with dreams of being a "legit go-go dancer" wasn't easy to achieve back then , however. But my spirit was never broken , even though my mother later had regrets that she didn't encourage me to go with sis to dance class. I have such rich memories of dancing on our old porch with all the kids spinning cool 45's on the portable record player . "Cry like a Baby , The Horse , Pony Time , You Can't Sit Down" , and of course "Bobby Freeman's" phenomenal "the Swim" featured here !!! Greatest time to be young !
