i've been a dancer for ten years now, and it's really interesting to see all the different rules and guidelines that different teachers have!! i don't dance competitively by any means, we just do classes for fun, and do exams in december, and then have an annual show in the summertime. my teacher is so laidback, we have so much banter and chat in class and i always look forward to going to her class, it's the best part of my day. of course we all maintain good etiquette throughout, but i always think that it's nice when you have a teacher who doesn't take themselves too seriously and is open to suggestion, and likes engaging with their students. loved the video, i've been a fan of your channel for ages and your videos are always so so inspiring! hope you're well
@theresegalenkatttant4 жыл бұрын
that goes well for adult students and students over 15. For kids though, it requires alot of discipline so not dome of them will spin into a cycle of just playing away the entire lesson, and that affects all the other students who are there really seriously. Afterall, their parents pay for their time there! Adults, however are more often there for the fun of it and would be very discouraged if things were too serious

Those rules are so decieveing. While watching I think to myself "but that's just good manners" or "that's just common sense" and thought of them as obvious and that I abide by all of them. And yet, after watching entire video, I understood how much I needed that pointed out so clearly. Devil's in the details as they say. I noticed many things I didn't notice before. Thank you very much! :D Great channel by the way :)

Omg, Auti... 😣 Back early when I started dancing in a studio I used to like but unfortunately I didn't have any recommendations and... omg... I was SO disrespectful 😶 watching your tips just makes me be so ashamed of myself and sad after all I did in class and with my teacher (and believe it: I loved her, i admired her soooo much! But unfortunately I didn't showed it). I thing I already broke all these rules during my 2 years in that studio. Time to change! Time To apologize the studio and my teacher! Time To grow! Thank you for your help and honesty, I needed ❤

Thanks, Miss Auti! Could I add one more dance etiquette which is really a pet peeve and extremely inconsiderate towards classmates - and that is STOP HOGGING THE MIRRORS during center!!! It's like we all are there to learn and move and dance, so sometimes I look at the mirror to also follow along when I can't remember what to do. It's just common courtesy to give that one step to the side for someone in the back to have a bit of mirror too. It's so sad when this happens and I've stopped going to many classes out of frustration. Oh yeah, some teachers should learn from this tutorial too, Miss Auti, because their being late is unprofessionally a no-no.

If you are late, do not run to take a spot in front of the mirror Do not run in front of a better dancer (disciplined, has longer training, can hold their leg up, point their foot...especially if you can't do any of it). We learn from observation, and we do better when an enabled person is before us. Ask yourself if a person behind me can learn something from me. This does not apply to a class where the instructor assigns the space and/or the class is evened out as far as development)

Hey thank you for making all the efforts towards to teach us ballet in different steps and through different ways :))) ! , But can you please answer one question maybe you did in the video but I kinda didn't get it or something I am sorry but, what should we wear on the first day of class because I live in Pakistan where ballet doesn't stand as one of the significant or fascinated thing for girls right here ik it's strange and not likely to be appreciate and that's because I don't have much knowledge about it i am soon going to be joining classes the one and only academy in here and it's underrated as well but dreams gotta be on their way to turn a reality:). Looking forward to your reply.

I've been dancing my whole life, and etiquette sort of comes naturally to me now, so when a collegue said that she took her kid out of dance class because "they wanted her to have SPECIAL CLOTHES and her HAIR IN A CERTAIN WAY!!!???", I was chocked. Like... Of course you should have the right clothes and your hair in a way so that it's not in the way?! I told her that and she said "Yeah, but they were so strict about it!? So what if my kids doesn't have tight clothes for ballet class?" and I was like "BUT HOW IS THE TEACHER GOING TO SEE WHAT SHE NEEDS TO ADJUST IF YOUR DAUGHTER ONLY WEARS BAGGY CLOTHES?!?!?!?!".

At my studio our phones sit with our water bottles so we can film our dances other than that we don’t touch them at all ALSO DON’T LOOK AT THE CLOCK. It makes your teachers think your not engaged and that you are waiting for class to be over.

Isn't it about time that the Professional Dance Instructors (Who are NOT already doing it) add Dance Floor Etiquette & Floor craft to their instructional syllabus / Curriculum?! Sometimes called,...“The Rules of the Road”. It's surprising how many people have been dancing for years and never knew that there was a fast lane and a slow lane that should be followed on every social dance floor. Are YOU aware aware that ONLY two (2) styles of dancing actually take place on when dancing socially? Yes Folks, actually, there are ONLY TWO (2) kinds / forms of Dancing that take place on a Social/Club Dance Floor, anywhere in the World. Those are: 1.) Progressive ~or~ Smooth type Dances. 2.) SPOT~ or~ Rhythm Dances. That's it! & it is hard to understand, "WHY" Dance Instructors DO NOT Emphasize this FACT at the beginning of every dance class?! On larger floors, the first 3 to 5 feet around the edge is known as the "fast lane." It is for dances like the Two-Step, Polka, Triple Step, Waltz, Tango and other PROGRESSIVE or SMOOTH Dances. All of these, NEVER, ever going Backwards against the {counter clockwise } Line of Dance. The next 3 to 5 feet around the floor is the "slow lane." It is for slower progressive and stop and go dances such as the Schottische, Shuffle, and Fixed Pattern Partner Dances. If you dance slow, it is polite to stay in an inner lane and let people pass you on the outside. The closer you go to the center, the slower you may go. The center of the dance floor is for Free Style & Swing Dancing (SPOT or Rhythm Dances) along with Line Dancing. Line dancers should never line up clear out to the rail and block progressive dancers. This continues to give line dancing a bad reputation. Line dancers should also be aware of those around them and aware that progressive dancers may be coming around the edge of the floor. Even if the DJ calls an electric slide or other Line Dance, that does not preclude folks from dancing, at the same time to any other "style" Step pattern of their choice. The faster the song, the smaller the steps! The corners of the Dance Floor are not for Spot Dancing! Move those dances to the center of the floor allowing progressive dancers to progress counterclockwise around the dance floor, never stopping in the corners. It's not cool to stand on the dance floor to socialize or drink. Even worse to "Teach" on the Dance Floor so as to obstruct the dancing pleasure of others. Since the man is leading, it is his job to keep an eye out for traffic and follow “The Rules of the Road”. If you do cause a collision, smile and apologize. Give the other guy the benefit of the doubt, {twice} ;-). Country & Western Dance Clubs quite often play a song that is perfect for Line, Swing, Fast & Slow dances to be done all at the same time. Courtesy on the dance floor & Your awareness of "Floor Craft", allows that to happen smoothly. So remember, only you can prove that on your favorite Social Club's dance floor there is ROOM FOR EVERYONE! All dance floors have room for everyone. Few floors have room for everyone at once. Share the floor with other dancers. PLEASE,.....Spread the Word my Friends!
