this song addresses the haters. NCT 127 basically said they don't care.! As you have heard many NCT 127 songs, they are more experimental and different than other groups with their loud/weird (but interesting) sounds in the song's instrumental, or how their songs have sudden switch ups in the beat, esp in the bridges of the song. Lots of haters call NCT music as 'noise' music, in a bad way. "NCT noise you can't break me", "Simon Says (haters), we're real vibe killers", "we don't pay no mind", "you think you know it all", "Simon Says be cool, don't be such a fool" - these are some lyrics in the song. NCT 127 are telling the haters that NCT is NCT, and they are not going to change because of what other people say or think about them. Most people listen to music thats popular or 'easy' to the listen to or what's on the radio. And a lot of groups out there tend to follow the trend of other groups. NCT 127 don't follow trends so some people might not like/care for music that is different. People tend to hate something that they are not familiar with. You have to be open-minded or have extremely good taste in music to appreciate NCT 127 songs, esp their title tracks. NCT not caring is one of the meaning, but there is another meaning to this song. NCT 127 is saying that they know of the rumors/hates towards them and are watching. "You guys (haters) will be mine mine mine mine mine', meaning that rhe haters, sooner or later, might become fans of NCT. NCT 127 don't usually put out songs that express their feelings towards something like addressing the haters. So this is something that they really want to let everyone know that NCT will continue to be NCT no matter who's in the way. That's why this song, specifically, felt different.

I'm sure someone must've said this already but the audio in the beginning is the Haka. This song actually has such a great meaning behind it too. Since the beginning, 127 were criticized heavily about their experimental music until other groups started adopting experimental sounds too, or like how the antis call it 'noise music'. This song was basically about how (since they are idols), people expect them to do things and behave in a certain way, wanting to control them-as if it was a game of simon says. And this was them saying that they're not confirming to the 'mould' and will continue with what they want to do. In fact, in the lyrics they've even referred to some of the things people like to insult NCT 127 with.

The sound at the begining is the haka from new zeland. The haka is a type of ceremonial Māori dance or challenge. Haka are usually performed in a group and typically represent a display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity.

When you said "They are speaking through their body" I really felt that. This song has something to say and they are consistently communicating by voice and movement that message - "We will be ourselves and do our own thing no matter what the outside mocking voices throw at us." There is a lot going on in this track and it's not like... an easy listen. But it is powerful and it did grow on me and I love all the little vocal/rap details they use throughout... It makes me feel courageous after I listen to it or watch it performed

Actually Tael did it live during one of the award shows in Korea I just cant exactly remember what show it is but He can actually sing live and that proves with one of their current ballad song From Home and From Home rearranged version which is also live. They featured the power vocals of NCT in that song😊 but the best version of it will be From Home rearranged version which they did in MAMA 2020.

Hi there, I'm watching all your NCT reactions, I like this one because you felt the song even if you didnt read rhe lyrics first... I love this song (my favorite EVER) because it has a interesting meaning. Yeah, it can be about haters, BUT I think is also about society. It is related to the whole NCT concept... In the lyrics there is a line that makes me really emotional (?). While reading the lyrics for the first time i felt like it is almost an statement that tells you: Don't listen what others say (society), don't silent your inner voice, stop, look inside and find yourself using your imagination... "Between fantasy and reality, there is a moment when you find yourself"

Simon Says is an acquired taste. I love it b/c my fave styles of music are hip-hop and R&B -western style. NCT 127 does these styles, the best to me in Kpop overall. (EXO does R&B the best though, by itself). This song is kind of trap-hop and it's slower tempo makes it a vibe. Oh, and the vocal quartet really shined here. Doyoung, Jaehyun, Haechan, Teil.

I love how you described their attitude in this song, even when you haven't known the lyrics. They really owned this song, and to this day I still feel like Simon Says is one of my fav dance practice videos of them bcuz of this reason. It's like they're spelling out the message of the song through the choreo and you can kinda feel like you're being addressed by something eventho you're not sure what it is. At first I also couldn't digest the song fully, but watching their dance, there's this weird attraction to it just from how good they delivered it. And now I love the song too.

For me, I have an interesting theory about NCT songs to share. If it is the first time listen to their song, you will keep asking ‘what is going on’ or have some kinds of weird feeling that hard to explain. But if you keep listen to it, you will find some new things every time from the old same song that amaze you. And you will finally find how cool the song is. It took me almost two years after its release to get how amazing Cherry Bomb is and same thing happened to me again with Simon Says. Since then I think I’ve already get used to their style and got excited every time for their new songs.

Simon says is a statement song for me. It's 127 saying "we will follow our own rules" for me. The lyrics are great and the bridge is a really important part of the song. Hearing Taeil live is really amazing. It's the same effect you had with Taeyeon.

Yeah! It was the Google Concert back in 2012. Everyone was waiting in line, while SNSD had their sound check. And everyone around me were in awe of Taeyeon's high notes that echoed throughout the amphitheatre. I'll never forget that. 😭
