People like you think that if you pay taxes you should be able to do a million things for free. Guess what? Taxes are not an infinite source of wealth! They have to be stretched to cover all of those other things you think should be free...health care, housing, education, welfare...and yet suddenly on the little bit (and yet comparatively it is a little bit) of taxes that you pay, you want the money to appear out of thin air to fund 100% of this so that you can do what you want for free. If 100% of fare money went to...what part of metro exactly? Are we talking about maintenance? How about land rights and taxes? How about the raw materials? What about employee pay? What about expanding or creating new lines? Research and Development? Upgrading ramps and existing equipment? Paying for safety inspections and keeping existing stuff to code? Just which one of those things should “100%” of the fare to go cover? And then, would you be willing to work and arrange all of those things for free, since you seem to think it doesn’t deserve to be a paid position?
